Zoloft (setraline) side effects
« on: March 29, 2011, 01:22:11 PM »
Anyone here taking zoloft? I'm on 50 mg of the generic sertraline. I've only been on it for about 3 weeks & I've been having these strange side effects. My neck hurts and my brain feels like it's on fire. It's hard to describe. Also my anxiety seems to be worse & I have this feeling that I'm gonna crawl out of my skin! Has anyone else experienced this? And if so, when will these side effects go away?!

i think I have been on every modern anti-depressants and have been on Sertraline for about 4 months. I am now on 200mg a day of Sertraline.

I have definitely found Sertraline to have the least side effects of all the anti-depressants I have tried, and apparently my Doctor has also noticed the same. However the symptoms you describe sound more like a stroke. If I was you I would get urgent medical advice before anything else.

Those feels you are having are typical with many SSRIs.  That doesn't mean that there isn't one out there for you and that in many cases these feelings subside so you don't have to switch BUT if you really find that it is very disconcerting, talk with your doctor and don't feel pressured by him/her to stay on a medication that you may have lost faith in.  There are so many options out there... you don't have to suffer, especially if you are feeling more anxiety after 3 weeks.  I know that one generally doesn't start feeling better on SSRIs until the 6th week but feeling worse after three weeks can be somewhat distressing.  I've tried many SSRIs so I definitely know how you are feeling.  There are tons to try and if they don't work, there are SNRIs, tricylcics, tetricyclics, benzos (short and long acting), beta blockers...plenty of options.  You don't have to settle for just feeling OK when you can feel pretty darn good.

This isn't meant to push you in either way...just to let you know you have lots of options.  Let us know what you end up deciding to do.

It's been about 4 weeks now that I've been on it. I'm on a really low dose (25 mg) and I tried upping it to 50 (that's when I had these symptoms) so I decided to just stay on 25 mg for now. I have to say that now the side effects seem to be gone. So maybe it's working now? 200 mg?! That's a high dose! Did you have any side effects from it? And how long did it take for you to start feeling better?  I'm glad you found something that worked for you!! See its weird that I'm having such bad side effects from the zoloft bc I've been on it before and at a higher dose 50-100 mg) and never had as bad side effects than I'm having now. If it worked for me for so many years before I don't know why it wouldn't now or why it would be so different?
