Middle of night panic
« on: March 26, 2011, 07:33:10 AM »
Yet again it happened last night.. :(
I had a bad evening where i felt dizzy and not there and sick .  I knew when i went to bed it would be a bad night. I got no sleep at all just lay there with eyes closed.

My body was vibrating, shaking, i could not breathe and my heart was racing .  i had tight band round my head and took a headache tablet to try and ease it.

What can you do when your body is like that.????.. i try deep breathing but nothing seems to work . Then the following day i just write off as i still feeling the effects.   I just dont know how to get better ..and i dont know if i ever will .

Am i the only one that gets these nocturnal attacks???

I get this too, I am always worse at night :(

I dread bedtime, sometimes it's okay, but when I have had a bad day then at night I lay there feeling dizzy and panicky and woke up one night disorietated and out of it.

It's horribe isn't it :(

I would try a natural relaxing agent such as Melatonin, Valerian, etc. You could also contact
your physician for advice.

Yeah been there, these are horrible. Your body wants to relax and sleep but it just can't. Then you fall asleep for an hour and wake up like you've been shocked. I take benedryl to help.

If it makes you feel better, I had a night just like that last night after at least a year of not having one.  I'm under a lot of stress right now and I think our body notices it way before we're aware of it.  I've suffered from severe anxiety and hypochondria for over 20 years but in the last 3, I've been doing MUCH, MUCH better.  So there is hope.  Two steps forward, one step back, but still moving forward.  Are you taking any medication?  If it gets to be too much, there are some meds that are very helpful.

Take the zoloft!!
I seriously was you.  I'm not perfect yet but the meds have totally help with all the horrible physical symptoms.
I was afraid of the meds to but i just got to the point where i said f-it.  I can't take this anymore and popped a prozac thinking it couldn't get any worst.
They have helped.
take the pill.  give it time to work.  you'll see every day gets a little better.

I think for most people fears are the worst at night.  There's no distractions, just the sounds in your head, and fears and anxieties can be self-reinforcing.  My own worst panics and deepest fears are usually at 3 or 4 in the morning.

I have valium for if it gets too bad.  Some doctors will prescribe Xanax, which acts more quickly and departs more quickly (I think).

Hang in there.  You're not alone.  Personally I find some comfort knowing that at the exact moment when I am suffering with fears, there are millions of other people dealing with their own demons.  We are legion.

99 % of my panic attacks I ever had have been at night.  I think it sounds to be quite common. For me at night time there are no distractions, everybody is usually sleeping and I feel alone. That is when I usually panic. I have had ones so bad that I couldn't sleep at all and stayed up all night upset. It might help to get a prescription for a anti-anxiety medication. Also reading, drinking some hot tea and listenig to some music have helped me. Or laying in bed with a pet, makes you feel less alone. :) Try to get more excercise during the day so you will feel tired when  you actually have to go to sleep. That way, you won't be laying awake in bed with time for your mind to to run wild.
