A song that represents you...
« on: April 18, 2007, 03:52:57 PM »
Just curious.  What song do you feel best represents the struggles you are going through, or the triumphs you have had over anxiety?  Mine, is "Learning to Fly" by Tom Petty.  I just feel like sometimes I am lacking wings to carry me through the day.

I suppose the main supportive song for me might be a song by 'Tubthumper'  a British band called 'I get knocked down but I get up again you aint never gonna keep me down'

For anxious times and low moods: "Fell on black days" by Soundgarden. Album: Superunknown, 1994.
Soundgarden were lead by Chris Cornell, the best rock singer, if not one of the best singers period, of modern times.

Whatsoever I've feared has come to life
Whatsoever I've fought off became my life
Just when everyday seemed to greet me with a smile
Sunspots have faded
And now I'm doing time
'Cause I fell on black days...

For happier times: I love the carefree nature of "Going to California" by Zakk Wylde (prefer his version to the original by Led Zeppelin). Album: Zakk Wylde Rare Trax, 1999.

So, so many songs though...

One of them is definitely Crucify by Tori Amos, other Everything Burns by Ben Moody and Anastacia.

King,

Are you a grunge fan?  I didn't expect your choice.  "Fell on Black Days" is on of my all time favorites.  In fact the whole album is great.  "Spoonman", "Black Hole Sun" etc.

My personal favorites are all over the place, but one song that describes me.

"Long December" by Counting Crowes

Love grunge music though and 90's rock.

AHHH, love grunge , love the 90's rock - and there is a soft soft in my heart for 80's too :happy0151:. I think that Tori Amos has some great songs, I am a huge Coldplay fan (don't judge) and gotta gotta got to have my Pearl Jam and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Dosed is a great song by the Peppers and Immortality by Pearl Jam rocks!

Have to agree.  Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Alice and Chains, Soundgarden, STP, etc.  All of these bands take me way back.  I am a musician, so these are the bands that I grew up playing.  I also really got into Metallica for awhile, but that kinda dies off after the "Black" album.  I actually like Coldplay as well.  They are a great band in a time of exceptionally crappy music.  The US is so into putting beautiful people on TV who can barely sing and making them stars and quite honestly it is disturbing.  I also am afraid to say this, but I am a huge fan of Dave Matthews and John Mayer.  They are both phenomenal guitar players and amazing lyricists.

We are on the same page with musical tastes!! I loved Metallica right up until they got all commercialized - then it just was like aehhh. I love John Mayer - Jack Johnson. Dave Matthews I do not feel I am dedicated enough to like, it seems like all his fans are soooo devoted, but he is great!!! All in all alternative rocks.

Obviously I otally missed the boat you were all on.  I grew up in late 80's early 90's and I have to say the whole Britpop scene was my music, Inspiral carpets, the stone roses, the soup dragons, the charlatons and then 90's Oasis, Blur, the stereophonics etc then late 90's until now Keane, Travis, The Kooks, The Kaiser Chiefs, Snow Patrol, The Fratellis, The Feeling, Razorlight.

And I absolutely hate Coldplay and cant understand what all the fuss is about there are bands in Britain far better.

I would have to say....

Cat Stevens "Wild World"

Joseph Arthur "In The Sun"

Phil Roy "It's alright"

These are all songs that make me feel better I guess. They really don't have much to do with anxiety, but whatever.

Gloomy,

No worries.  I like Oassis too.  LOL.  Hey, I am not sure if you guys would have heard of this band, but I really like a band called Prime STH out of Stockholm, Sweden.  They are amazing and I have been following them for years.  Not sure where they are now, but why they aren't huge is a complete mystery to me.

Yeah, I'm a massive grunge-man.

Soundgarden are my fave G-band (love all of that album) and BadMotorFinger, followed by Pearl Jam. Nirvana ok, also love Stone Temple Pilots, AIC. What a place Seattle must have been in the early 90's. If any of you heard the theme tune to the recent Bond film, that was Chris Cornell from Soundgarden - now AudioSlave - singing it.

I am a massive rock fan in general, from old Van Halen to nu-metal like Staind, etc to Metallica to Black Label. I dont quite make the 25 concerts a year I used to but as a semi-musician (have a Les Paul Gibson) I appreciate a good rock guitarist when I hear one. I also love blues (well I'd have to wouldnt I being the anxious type requiring musical balm).

I used to have hair so long it was half-way down my back....ah, those were the days. Pre-anxiety......

Have a good w/e all

Not many people have even heard of Badmotorfinger, but it is also a great album.  I actually moved across the country to persue music and there were two options for me, either Seattle or Austin, I choose Austin simply because of the weather.  LOL.  I don't know if I can handle all the rain in Seattle.  I ended up "getting a haircut and a real job", but I still write and record my own music although I am not as active as I used to be (before kids).  I still play the guitar quite often and am going to make damn sure my two daughters have music in their lives.  It has always been a great outlet for me in my life, so I am going to share that with them.

Very cool.
