Motivational/Inspiring/Chill Music Thread
« on: March 21, 2011, 11:16:12 PM »
Ok so I stole this idea from a bodybuilding forum I frequent, as music plays a big part in keeping me motivated to workout. So I figure it applies here too, because music has helped me through some hard times. I will post some of my favorites when I'm feeling down or anxious, and I encourage everyone to do so also. Some of my favorite artists.

My computer is old fashioned, like me, won't cooperate with links. But music is absolutely my motivation and inspiration to my varied exercise routines.

Put music on and I'm a wind up toy like Olympia in The Tales of Hoffmann. Gets me to do yoga, weights on a fitball, Pilates, move on the treadmill and now learning Tai Chi. My musical selections are classical or, believe this, opera. Gets me going every time and when the body gets going the mind lights up. Thanks for reminding me of the treasure of music.

No Problem:-)I listen to a lot of different types of music also.If it sounds good then I will give it a go.I try to stay active and exercise also.Mainly push-ups,sit-ups,just the old gym standards.I think I am a little to tall for yoga.I imagine myself twisted up into a pretzel even when I think about trying it out. :happy0151:

Wish I were too tall for anything since I'm too short for just about everything. Tall will only cause you to do and look better. The yoga and pretzel matter is a myth for most ordinary people. Yoga is superb for stretching, joints, spine, balance, relaxation, breathing. In my first class there was one man with the ladies. He told me yoga kept him out of a wheel chair. He was great in there.

If you are self motivated to do pushups and situps, you could learn the Sun Salutation (I do every day) with YouTube. Lots of pros illustrate it. You can get Babar's Yoga for Elephants where Babar does the poses on one page. Babar is delightful for anyone at any age. He teaches other poses as well. You can get the book from your library.

If you do the Sun Salutation every day you'll live to 100 whether you want to or not. Happy Easter. Namaste.

It looks really relaxing.I watched a couple of the video's and it doesn't look very difficult. The back bend has me a little worried.;-)I'm going to research it a little; and more than likely, give it a try.Thank you again for the information.100 seems like an awful long time.:-)

Happy Easter,
Danny

Hi Danny, in case you are interested to pursue the Sun Salutation, want to point out that the upward motion (from low pushup) can be modified to be Cobra instead of what might be Up Dog (a deeper back bend). In other words, a gentle, short lift up before going into Down Dog.

What struck me about yoga is the attention to the spine which is generally ignored in traditional exercise. The Sun Salutation strengthens the spine. Just thought I'd mention this..........Tina
