Medications for Blood Phobia?
« on: March 19, 2011, 12:59:13 PM »
I have had an extreme phobia of blood since I was a kid. I actually faint if people are talking about blood (if it's in a way that disgusts me). It has always caused problems in my life. I started taking Topamax last year for anxiety and, surprisingly, it really helps my phobia, and keeps me from fainting when people talk about blood. However, it has also caused kidney stones (as a rare side effect), and now I have to discontinue the medication. I'm wondering if other anti-convulsants have the same effect on specific phobias, and if so, which meds have this effect? Does anyone else have this phobia, and if so, have you found any medication(s) that have helped with the anxiety (besides benzos like Xanax)? I'd be really curious to know, as I'd like to find something else that works as well as Topamax but doesn't have the side effects. Thanks!
