Nearly Fainting - Anxiety or Something Worse?
« on: March 07, 2011, 08:40:34 AM »
I have had a near-fainting episode two weeks in a row at church. First I started out feeling a little breathless, then I got the cold sweats and was terrified I would pass out. I had to go lay down and the episode passed in about 5 minutes. I'm also 6 months pregnant.

I have been suffering from extreme anxiety since going off my Wellbutrin and Celexa with this pregnancy. The past few weeks have been especially daunting - I have been feeling extremely guilty and a worthless, terrible person. The issues causing this have been worked out with my wonderful hubby, but I can't shake it. (It's nothing really that awful, I guess, but just days when I was young and stupid many years before we met/got married).

We went to Urgent Care after yesterday's episode and the doc checked my laying/standing blood pressure, etc. He thinks that I'm simply not getting enough fluids, even though the blood pressures were acceptable, and told me to drink two quarts of a Gatorade/water mixture daily.

So, now, of course, I'm terrified of this happening again, which in turn,  could well exacerbate these symptoms. I'm also scared that something is wrong with my heart. I do think it's odd that both episodes have happened in church. I love our church, but perhaps these feelings of guilt and worthlessness are amplified when there? Not sure.

I do have troubles with feeling breathless in the past (when not on meds). I actually feel better when doing light physical activity (albeit not as intense a workout as before pregnancy!)

Can you please share if you've had similar experiences? Thank you so much.

I used to have to take my anxiety spray with me to church because I would start having episodes of panic while I was just sitting in the pew. Church always makes me feel better and helps me to feel safe but for a while there it wasn't and I think it was because I was feeling super guilty for awful things I had done in my past. And being that your pregnant and coming off the meds your going to feel it even worse. The last few times I was pregnant, I remember having the about to faint feeling quite a bit. During my 5th pregnancy I remember getting this rush and breaking out into a sweat out of no where and feeling faint and nauseated. And this happened a few times during the last half of my pregnancy. I think it's just a mix of anxiety, guilt and no meds. You've already talked to your doctor about it, so relax. Pray, talk to God :) He's always there willing to listen and to help :)

And if your guilt is that bad, just take comfort and remember that Jesus said,
"Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance."

Near fainting is common during all stages of pregnancy

1) have your iron levels checked
2) have your blood pressure checked
3) keep snacks to make sure your sugar levels stay up.
4) make sure its not too hot. Heat will make a prego drop faster than anything else.
5) STAY HYDRATED!

Those are the main reasons and other than that you can just blame baby and hormones. I've had a really hard time with anxiety, dizziness and near fainting with this pregnancy. My Dr doesn't seem too concerned. Just be aware of your surroundings in case you do pass out.
