kidney trouble?
« on: February 20, 2011, 11:09:23 PM »
Hi all. To give a little bit of background, about mid december I started having back pain around the area of my kidneys. I freaked out because my grandmother was on dialysis for 8 years before she died of complications from that. She was diabetic, as are several members of my family. Anyways, I have had 3 CBC tests since then, and all three showed normal kidney function. I am not diabetic, and I had my last test just shy of 2 weeks ago. The thing that concerns me is the pain seems to have come back stronger than usual. Do things change that quickly? I don't see my PCP til Friday. What should I do?

Do you drink alot of sodas and stuff like that? I don't drink sodas, teas(other than herbal) or things like that normally but when I do, most of the time, I get kidney pains like crazy. And I start freaking out. Most of the people in my family have diabetes, too. I get my pains to go away by drinking nothing but water and a little cranberry juice for a few days straight.
Try it. I think your okay. It's just your HA playing "chaotic" with your mind. You've had 3 tests that all say your just fine. You have no reason to think otherwise :)
If need be, just discuss any concerns with your PCP on Friday. But until then just be happy and focus on positive things :)

Maybe the pain isn't really coming from your kidneys at all? Have you had an MRI or anything? I was told by my doc that kidneys seldom feel pain,unless you have a kidney stone or something. It could be muscular?

Maybe your pain is muscular in nature.

Damn I couldn't find this thread on Saturday no matter how hard I looked, until today I saw the "show new replies..." option :goofy:
Thank you all for the replies

@christina10778
I had actually cut out sodas and such since the pain started (being overweight and at risk for diabetes coupled with this health scare) but I was at a bitrthday on Saturday and had a few cups of soda. It could definitely be what caused it.

@starr77 and marc
I was checked for stones and had a renal ultrasound mid january, nothing showed up and my doctor believes that the pain is muscular in nature.

What I did not mention in the op is that I was having some problems with urination and coupled with the increased pain automatically made my mind turn to kidney trouble. I will heed the advice and try and chill out until Friday. Thx again all

if you having urination problems,it mite be a bladder or kidney infection. A simple dip stick test can tell you if its an infection you can buy them at Walgreen's,i be live they are made by azo. At least then you will know if its an infection and if it is you mite want to see your doc before fri because kidney infections need antibiotics.
