DSPS
« on: February 14, 2011, 10:06:35 PM »
Who else has it? I'm a college student and have had DSPS ever since high school. In high school I would stay up late playing video games, often going to school on 3-4 hours of sleep. I would crash as soon as I got home for another 3-4 hours and repeat the cycle. Well, 6 years later I still cannot go to sleep before 5am. I can't tell you how many times I've tried staying up 24+ hours straight to "reset" myself. I think anxiety just makes it worse, and my mind sometimes won't slow down until well into the morning hours. Have any of you overcome DSPS? I've just learn to accept it for the time being. Hopefully, when life truly demands (because even college doesn't seem to), things will fall into place naturally.

Hi, I've had the same problem... don't worry! It makes you feel much worse when you don't get a good sleep. There have been many times I just lay in bed and just think. Since then I have gone to therapy, I found thinking about positive things when getting ready for bed helps. My boyfriend is a sweetie and he tries to understand what's going on, but I feel kind of alone sitting in bed tossing and turning. My suggestion is to reach out for therapy... think about the promising future or something or someone that makes you smile before you go to bed. I journaled for a couple weeks when I was very bad off and it helped. I have found that lack of sleep causes an anxiety feeling, you feel behind and never really there. This is why it is important to keep trying! I know I drove my boyfriend insane with my lack of sleep and sleepless nights, but I PROMISE you if you work at it... it will get better and your whole quality of life will improve.

Thanks for posting, glad there are others out there!
