Hi everyone..I'm hoping to find support on here.
« on: February 10, 2011, 10:33:47 PM »
Hello everyone,

I decided to get on this website in seek of some support, it's hard to get any in my life right now and I can't really talk to anyone about everything I have going on.

I'll give the short version of my story...

I am in my second year of college, I take a full course load (15 credits/5 classes), I also work part-time, among a few other extracurricular activities. Now, lets start with my home life which happens to be the root of my sudden depression. My dad lost his job 2 years ago. My mom lost her job about 5 years ago. My dad had worked at his past job for 5 years or so, one day he came into work and his boss told him he was fired, period, with no regard for the fact that my dad has 2 kids and an unemployed wife. Both my parents are highly educated, but like many Americans right now, can't find work anywhere doing anything. I watch my parents struggle to keep our house, the only reason we have been able to do so is because of help from my grandparents...but they are getting to the point where they can no longer help us. I live at home and commute to school, so I see the struggle my parents are going through first hand and it hurts. I wish I could help them more, but my job pays very little and I only work a couple days a week. My parents constantly argue, and I see it hurting my little sister. I don't want her to become depressed. My mom has somewhat of an addiction to prescription pills, she pops pills when my dad starts arguing then passes out a couple hours later and sleeps for 8 or 9 hours, then wakes up mad and spiteful. She pops Ritalin (ADHD meds) to stay up all night watching tv/using the computer/etc, then falls asleep around 6 or 7am, sleeps till about 3pm, and repeats.   vg

So you have taken on the problems of the house and let it drag you down? That would be about right? Rather than doing that could you not check out in your home area for any kind of welfare assistance that your parents would be entitled to? I am sure they are not expected to live on nothing for the whole week. I'm from Ireland. If you have trouble meeting bill payments there are places you can ring. Some help you out. Others simply draw up a plan for you. By way of showing you that things can be put right if you go about it the right away. They may also give other numbers to ring. At least that way you will see yourself as trying to help the situation. It was just unlucky that things happened the way they did. Nothing you could do to prevent that from happening. But things do get tough. Nobody likes to see that. But there is always an answer. I am sure there will be help out there. Just has to be found.

Other than that, enjoy the forum for now. Lots of things to do. Chatroom, games, gallery and blogs. A lot of friendly members.

wow it does seem you have a nice frothy brew going on in your home.  A lot of stress for sure.  I'm sorry to hear that.  It IS very difficult.  I do think you'll find some nice folks here in the forum and perhaps the chatroom.  We are a friendly lot so hop right in.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.
