Left Abdominal Pain
« on: April 04, 2007, 01:24:31 PM »
Hey everyone,

yesterday I was skateboarding and I got a cramp in the upper left part of my abdomen kinda beneath my rib cage. It doesn't hurt that bad, but there is mild pain and sometimes if I move a certain way it is severe for a second. I used to run a lot and I would get this same cramp but it would only last for the time I was running. I am still experiencing this pain and it also appears that my left rib cage is slightly bigger than my right, there is a bone (I hope it's a bone!) noticably bigger than the right rib cage. Does anybody else have this? I don't want to google it so it would be comforting to know that this is a normal size difference and maybe you guys can offer me an explanation for the pain. I'm worried it could be a tumor, an infection, or a stomach ulcer, and a bunch of mystery diseases. Thanks for your help.

Hmmm the fact that you were being active at the time it started it sounds like a little stitch thing you get after running but it could be just a sore muslce or something like that.  Nothing in the human body is symetrical so its probably just a bit bigger on one side. Try not to worry have you tried ice or heat or anything?

If you were skateboarding, you were probably twisting your body round some of the time. This seems like it could have caused muscles on one side of your abdomen to be exerted more than the other. That would be my guess.

A sanderella is a mythical creature in Algerian folklore, similar to a mermaid. It is used as a cute nickname.

cool, thanks guys, the pain has gone down a bit, but I'm still a bit concerned. There are no protrusions, or discolouring, so I will see how the pain is tomorrow and try not to worry about it until then.

Thanks for your help :)

Yah, if the pain is going down, then it's a good thing.  That means it's probably healing.  LIke when you said it only hurts more when you touch it or move it or something like that, means it's probably just tender from what happened from skateboarding.  My rib cage is slightly protruding out more than the other, too.  Wow, i've never skateboarded for soo long, that if i did it now, I'd probably have 20 muscles all over my body aching.

Just to update for anyone who cares, the pain has subsided a lot since a few days ago and I bank it was because of my skateboarding. I have only skateboarded two or three times this spring so I think I could have strained an abdominal muscle. It is still tender, and I can feel it right now but it is not as intense as it was. I am taking it easy until I feel it is healed ;) Thanks for your help folks!
