Jobs
« on: January 25, 2011, 11:32:16 AM »
Where do some of you work? I had a job for two years and loved it but I recently moved (which was my own decision...I wasn't forced).
Since I moved back in August I've had two jobs in 6 months. I worry about my resume and being able to get decent work in the future but I'm seriously re-thinking my current job...due to the anxiety it causes me. I guess I should say the increased anxiety it causes me. heh

Any tips? I've been taking Gaba and another mood medication that I got from a health food store, as well as St. John's Wort. I haven't experienced any change yet. I love to ask people what they do because I'm also re-evaluating what I do...and trying to weigh options.

Thank you so much!

I currently do IT work for an insurance company. I don't have much options as to what I can do because I left school without doing my HSC. The job is good though, sometimes it can be quite stressful, I guess all jobs can be.

I'm not sure what your background is, but I have a degree in English. I work from home writing proposals for a pharmaceutical research organization. Prior to this job, I worked two different jobs doing similar work, only I worked in offices.

Let me tell you, working from home has made a HUGE difference in my anxiety levels. I used to dread waking up super early, getting all professionally-dressed, commuting, and sitting for eight hours in a sterile cubicle with people who were mostly lazy or uninspired - and don't even mention the dreaded "having to stay late". I sound like a jerk here, but it's true. Now I don't have to worry about being micromanaged and I am surrounded by a comforting and peaceful environment. Since working from home, my work ethic and attitude to work itself has greatly improved. I know that not everyone is in a field where they can work from home, but personally it has been a lifesaver.

That and finally breaking down and taking Zoloft...  :winking0008:

Thank you Aussie and GreenThumb.

GreenThumb, what you describe is exactly what I want. haha  Only since having my current job do I wake up and immediately feel dread about going into work. I work in a cubicle as a personal assistant for my boss who also shares my cubicle. It's just the two of us running the very small business. When she isn't in the office for a day I don't mind my job. I usually get anxious when I hear footsteps coming near my cubicle door because I know it could be her. Yesterday she didn't come in and it was a peaceful day. A huge weight was lifted off my shoulders when she said "I'm going to be doing a few things from home then I have meetings so I won't be coming in."
I completely understand the micromanaging you're referring to.
.....and I have a business degree. :)

Validated tests on homeopathic anxiety medications is non-existent. Getting adequate exercise and enjoyment outside of work are vitally important to job satisfaction, as is socialization at work. Also consider learning relaxation technigues such correct breathing and progressive relaxation.

If your anxiety is still troublesome, consider seeing a doctor for more effective relief with one of the plethora of effective medications and a physical exam, as certain deficiencies can amplify anxiety.
