Chatroom Full (Let me in)
« on: January 20, 2011, 09:38:48 PM »
Ha. I think it's time to up the max users.

The chat room has reached the maximum number of logged-in users. Please feel free to browse the forum or use the shout box until an opening becomes available again.

The more people in the room the worse it becomes. Lag wise. It has been tried and tested over and over again. Used to have a max of 20 users. Because around the point the screen would begin to freeze for everybody. So by keeping the numbers down it means better chat. I am sure others will fill you in more of this. But it used to be horrible. One word every five minutes. Then you would get about 30 messages at once. Nearly all saying the same thing ' the room has frozen again '. So that is why there is a max amount of users. And regulars understand this very well.

as cuch says---

if we up the max too much, the chatroom gets all messed up.  So we could up it to 30 or 40 but then the chat would go whacky and no one would be chatting....

Not sure but I think the Max is at 25...  When I'm in there with that many people, you can hardly follow any conversations because the screen moves waaaay to fast to keep up.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

As for the extra rooms part of your poll. There used to be a room for every disorder. Nearly 10 or so rooms. 1 was only used and the other 9 remained empty. Everybody just went to the main room. So it is not like that part hasn't been tried before either. They were there for a long time and nobody used to use them at all. So GG got rid of them.

Sounds like there isn't much that can be done than.

I appreciate the feedback.

I should have realized all these issues had been addressed before.

how bout, 2 rooms max users 15, and if room 1 fills up, the 2nd one starts getting added to, so on diff nights, ya get
a diff circle of people to talk to , so 30 total if matched,, only downer to this is if room 1 fills up, but room 2 only has
3 people, , doesn't make the second room much fun lol  the only other option would be to get us all on IRC  with MIRC etc
but that's a testy way to chat as its tricky to figure out how to get it to work

(EDIT) another option would be to have anyone who doesn't type in 30 mins get a automatic boot like ( not trying to sound mean here ) but on many nights I see many IDLE names even after 2 hours and nothing is said from them

Other than inviting another person to another "channel", this chatroom only has the one room.   the other chatroom we used had many rooms that no one ever or rarely entered--only the lobby had folks go in.    It also had a plethora of  glitches and problems that couldn't be fixed.  In the present chat there is an automatic log out on the room-probably about 15 minutes--possibly less.  You will see this with chat bot saying "sam" "timeout".  This is happening all of the time.  I see mods get dinged out like this too.  When you see someone not having spoken in the chat for a long length of time they may actually be speaking in "private chat" or "whispering" to someone else.  It would then appear that someone is completely inactive, when it is not the case at all.

Something else that has to be considered in site size ( bandwidth ). The more added the more space used up. The badwidth has been exceeded on a few occasions and left us with no site at all until GreyGoose could sort the problem out. Pictures in the gallery take up space. Games take up space. Blogs take up space. The site is improving all the time. So who knows what the next step will be. I am one who can't see a second room been used. Everybody will want to be in the main room. Same old story. You want to go where the names are. Those people you have become good friends with.
