Greetings - any former Tapir members here?
« on: December 26, 2010, 10:37:04 AM »
Hello and happy Boxing Day,

I have been looking all day for an active discussion forum for people like me (anxiety and/or depression).  About eleven years ago I used to hang out at the Tapir forum and it was wonderful.  They changed the software (GUI) at one point and the membership seemed to not hold together as well after that, and for this and other reasons I stopped going there.  I went back to look at the Tapir website today with the hope of re-registering and finding some of the old screen names but it appears the forum is not very active anymore  :(  Of the many sites I have looked at today this one looks to be a strong and active community.  What was great about Tapir at that time was that although discussions could get heated there was a respect there for diversity.  By diversity I mean, that an understanding that depression and anxiety could effect individuals differently and that not all answers worked for everyone, in that certain variables were different in different lives, namely (1) life circumstances and (2) temperment.

My particular curse is that recovery concepts and psychology do not work for me.  I recognize and appreciate that for many these things do work and I respect this fact.  The flip side is that for many others they do not.   I was a member at another very active forum last year for awhile but I felt there was not respect for my circumstances.

I am going to shut up now and start looking through some of the posts.  I would be happy to hear from any of you on this thread or via DM if you dealing with the curse of anxiety and depression and have found that what works for many does not work for you.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.
