Recently Diagnosed with Panic disorder
« on: December 23, 2010, 12:09:03 AM »
Hi guys,
I'm a 26 year old male from Sydney Australia
was diagnosed 3 months ago with Panic disorder was triggered from a bout of heartburn (thinking I was having a heart attack)
now it seems like a common day to day thing going through these panic attacks.
I feel them in the morning when I get up, and I feel them at work.
I suffer from at least 3 attacks a day and I am currently seeing a psychologist as well as medicated on .75mg xanax a day
I feel my anxiety is making me depressed  just for the fact of having these attacks.
My sensations include palpitations , shortness of breath and the worst a smothering sensation I want this to go away 3 month ago I was perfectly fine
now I feel like I'm a mess.
It makes me feel better to know Im not alone

Hi

I'd say welcome to panic disorder, but that might seem a bit harsh :laugh3:

My anxiety also made me very depressed, but with time, things will look better, and you can take that to the bank.

Early days for you, what a looong road you still need to go. Time, time, time, some help, time, time, self realization, time, time and more time. I don't want to seem unsympathetic, but most probably it is going to take you some time to get over this disorder. This is just the reality of things.

You will find some great advice and comfort here

Keep well :action-smiley-065:

I'm also new to this site, but certainly not new to panic disorder and agoraphobia.  I got my first panic attack when I was 22.  It was very scary, and I had no idea what was wrong with me.  I still remember how relieved I was to hear that other people had what I had.  It's such a good feeling to know you're not alone.  There's millions of us out there.  Some are still struggling with it, like me, ....but we all learn to live with it, in one way or another.  Meds is a good thing if it helps you.  Whatever it takes to get you through the day.
For me, it comes and goes.  I know some people who had it for awhile and then it went away, just like that!  Sadly, I wasn't one of those, but we can never give up fighting the good fight.
You'll find lots of support and understanding here, so come back often.......

I also starting having panic attacks on a daily basis starting october 17. It makes me so  miserable and I can't seem to get around it. My symptoms are my vision gets blurry, losing my peripheral vision, and my eyes start to hurt, rubber band around my head, back pain, heavy chest, thick air and very tired. It comes and goes. I started welbutrin a month and a half ago and am now going back to the dr next week to see if maybe a different drug like Prozac would be better. I feel less depressed but still have the panic symptoms. Just when I think I am going to make it through the day, it gets me. I am so desperate for relief and am afraid this will never go away. I have no joy and don't feel at home in my own home.

I'm new here also and i know what your going through. I've been having panic attacks for 10 years now ! not fun. I suggest you get everything checked out by a doctor just so you have piece of mind that nothing else is wrong. Also ask your self is anything else on your mind, money , girlfriend, work etc. I say that because my 1st attack was triggered by an eyelash in my eye, very funny i know lol. Turns out i was really stressed by work and anything could have brought it on. My advise is when you feel good just let it go and try not to tink about it. I find with panic disorder you can be your own worst enemy. good luck.
