Worried about doctors giving wrong diagnoses.
« on: November 30, 2010, 10:37:56 PM »
OMG I did not need to hear this today. My dad was talking to a neighbor about how he was seeing this doctor back in 2003 who had told him multiple times that his heart was fine. Two days later he had a heart attack..he survived it (by sheer luck )and is living and in pretty good health today. However my uncle was seeing the same doctor, who told him he was in good health..not long after that he got lung cancer and died about a year later. The biggest problem with this? This particular doctor was at the exact same clinc as the one I'm currently seeing. Another thing..this doctor was fairly young...my doctor is young. You see my concern. Anyway I'm now flipping out about being diagnosed as healthy and not really being.. and thinkin it's not intended for me to be healthy becauce of that whole december worry thing. It's awful...I'm even worried about thinking I want to not be ok if that makes sense. I had a good visit with my psycologist yesterday only to go back downhill in a hurry.  keep worrying what if my doctor is bery inexperianced? After all he was an intern, he did a quick examination..he never gave me the complete straight on my bloodwork...he wanted to do it TWICE..ect.. I like my doctor, he's not mean spirited or anything like that but I can't help but worry he wasn't experienced. I haven't takne the meds I was prescribed yet  myet because I have a few questions about them. Not that I don't plan on taking them, just  that I haven't yet. So I'm still nothingbut  a bundle of worry

sure docs can make mistakes.  And this is what a hypo dwells on.  But the vast majority of times, the docs are right on target.

If you don't trust this doctor, see another one.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

Hi Hypo1:) Yes, Sixpack is right...HA folks dwell on these rarities and, then, assume that THEY will be next in line for getting an incorrect diagnosis. When in actuality, our Docs get it right a VAST majority of the time. If your uncomfortable with a Doc...you can change. But, HA peeps have to be careful about "Doc hopping" trying to get somebody to diagnose them with an organic ailment, when, in fact, there most often is none. Somewhere down the line there has to be trust in someone or something in order for us to begin healing:) Feel Well:)

the absolute truth.  all doc hopping does, in most cases, is increase your anxiety and empty your wallet. And in the end you are no closer to fixing your issue (anxiety) because you haven't been working on that.

As I mentioned in another thread--my daughter, in her life, has seen 8 neurologists.  She has a brain malformation that causes, as you might surmise, a multitude of problems.  We weren't doc hopping (in most cases the change was due to a move).  BUT with all these docs, they all told me the same thing about my daughter.  They may have had a different bedside manner or approach solving or managing some of her issues, but all had the same diagnosis with the same prognosis.

sometimes the best doc in the world can only tell you that you are healthy...right now... nobody can see the future.... I'm sure you could have someone go into a full body MRI and come out clean and then they could spontanisoly combust or something the next day. Stuff like this happens.. I personally like younger docs because they tend to put more energy into chasing a Dx down.

I guess that is what I have a hard time with..... my life would be so much easier if someone could give me a warranty or guarantee for my body. The good thing is..that most conditions are treatable nowadays... that gives me a little hope some days..
