I would like to start out by saying how reassuring it is to have found this topic. Two nights ago, I had thoughts that SCARED ME TO DEATH. They involved harming someone that I love very dearly. I've never experienced something like this before, and have been in a funk for two days, constantly trying to convince myself that I haven't snapped and gone completely psycho. I have never had a panic attack before a couple of nights ago and have been questioning my own sanity and stability since then. A Google search led me to this forum where you all have described EXACTLY what I have been going through these last two days. I'm very happy to have found this site and I am desperately hoping that I can overcome these feelings on my own; however, if I feel like this for much longer I will seek help because these thoughts and feelings are absolutely debilitating, and I have a life to live and enjoy.

Hi guys.

This is what I'm going through at the moment. For like 6 months I was relatively okay, when I went to go to sleep and I gave a momentary thought about Gary Speed's 0119. Then I couldn't stop obsessing about what if I ever get 0119? What if I lose the will to live? Since then it's just gotten worse. I've been okay when out and about with friends doing things, but today at work was a very hard shift. It was just me working on my own, left to mull over these disturbing thoughts for the entire 8 hours. Don't even know how I got through it. This has only been going on for a little over a week, but I'm close to telling my parents...and I'm also close to seeking help.

Yes I've had these, most people don't understand them. If I told my friend I thought about killing him he would freak out! However, what he wouldn't realize is it is thankfully just an intrusive thought. It's usually a thought that is a 180 of how I want to behave in act. Its the most disturbing thoughts that grab a hold of us and focus our attention. I was never up nights because I had a thought about killing Osama Bin Laden, what keeps me up at night is when I have a thought of me hurting someone I care about. The fact you have anxiety over these things is obviously a clear indicator you are sane and not a sociopath. Sociopaths would experience joy at the thought of harming those close to them.

So don't worry, you'll never lose control and turn into a maniac.

Hi worried girl.

I know how scary it is as I suffer from intrusive thoughts too.
You need to firstly try your hardest to relax and calm down. I know its hard.
When you have a more relaxed positive mind state. You can understand the thoughts more clearly.
Don't try and push the thoughts away. You have to look at them and tell yourself its just the ocd.
You would never do those things dont worry. It's just a thought after all. And the only reason you have those thoughts is because you are completley against it and would never do it.

You need to speak to someone about it. I know its difficult but believe me  it helps a lot and its the first step to recovery.

Take care Hun :)

I've been having thoughts for years really, but they get better a worse. Sometimes a few times a month, or sometimes every day, it varies. I've been diagnosed with anxiety and depression. Is it possible I have OCD? I've never mention these thoughts to a therapist or other professional because I've been too scared they'll put me in hospital again. Would I get sectioned? They're only thoughts, not plans and I would hate to harm my family, I love them so much and I already worry every day that there might be something that's upsetting them that I can't help. I was thinking about finally telling them about it but someone on 0278 said they would section me. Would they trust me when I say I don't actually want to do what I do in those thoughts? Or would they section me just in case I do? I've been having them for years and never done anything to hurt my family, surely that shows something? I'm just really scared for what they're going to say.

ok im new to this,

im 21 years of age and m first experience of this was around 3 years ago i had thoughts i was gonna hurt my mother and had a big panic attack,

i had a little experience of cbt and was put on tablets and felt better and stopped taking medication thinking i felt better without it but recently i have had thoughts creeping back into my head such as me hurting my girlfriend and stupid thoughts too such as me in love with a work colleague which is nonsense i mean shes a good looking girl but annoying as hell and im in love with my current girlfriend, also i was watching chicken run earlier and a chicken was knitting a noose and thoughts come in my head earlier of me hsnging myself and th only way i get rid if these thoughts is by telling my girlfriend which upsets and disturbs her,

ive gone to docs and been put on flouxotine and am trying online cbt i just wondered what techniques everyone uses
