Is this considered 'SAD'?
« on: November 20, 2010, 12:55:36 AM »
Hello,

I suffer from anxiety and also what I belive may be SAD. What confuses me is that I am actually a very social, outgoing person in situations where I don't necissarily care what people think of me and in other situations I am totally riddled with anxiety.

For example, I'm at the make-up counter in Macy's, I can strike up a conversation and joke with the person working the counter with no problem at all. This goes for any situation like this whether it be at the DMV or grocery store. My partner actaully makes comments abot how I "can talk to anyone". But put me in a setting with people that I have to spend any amont of time with and I freeze up and can barely talk. Exampe, a new job or a college class that I may be taking.

It seems that until I get to know the people, I am so overwhelmed with fear as to what they think of me that it's hard to breathe. Once I get acclimated, I am usually the most outgoing and talkative one in the bunch.

Is it normal to have such a severe lack of social sklls in one situation and then be the 'social butterfly' in another situation?? I swear I feel like 2 completely different people depending on the situation...LOL.

TIA!!

SAD =Seasonal Affective Disorder. Which means you slump during the winter months. I see no sign of that in your post at all. You just seem to get nervous when doing nothing or in a relaxed situation with people. In other words you must always be on the move to feel better. So maybe just a mild form of soical anxiety moreso than SAD.

Whoops at me. I got my SAD's mixed up. Social Anxiety Disorder. Yes. I would imagine you have a mild version. Mild because you can still interact with people. Forgive the mix up. I'll hit myself.  :happy0151:
