Noticing my anxiety increasing a bit since going up on celexa
« on: November 17, 2010, 05:44:26 PM »
I know it normal and i was sort of anticipating this to happen but it's still sort of aggravating and depressing. I have been on celexa for a little over 2 weeks and was on 5mg up until 3 days ago then I upped it to 10mg which is now day 3 at that dose and I hadn't had a panic attack or many panic feelings in over 2 weeks but last night I started to freak out a little and thought I was going to go into a panic attack. Luckily I was able to remain calm until the feelings past but that's the closet I have came to an actual attack since being on celexa and it has me a little freaked out now because it's been so nice not having attacks and I am terrified if I have one it will start all the horrible anxiety and thoughts again of having them. I used to have an attack at least once a day and now since I haven't had one in a while I am not as scared of them up until last night anyway.

If anyone noticed their anxiety increase when upping doses how long did yours last before it faded? i know we are all different but it will give me some relief knowing it won't last too long.

Most SSRI's have anxiety as a potential side effect. They're not directly indicated for anxiety treatment, though they've become popular choices for a number of reasons that have nothing to do with people's well-being.

The story goes that this anxiety will fade in several weeks, and then the medicine will work... for some people.  I hope you're one of those people.

If it's not working, I recommend getting off (slowly) and trying to go drug-free, or using a controlled, monitored dose of benzos to help you until you
can.

Celexa boosted my anxiety so much that I thought my brain would never recovery from this. I went to ER and asked what can I do. They said, all SSRIs do this. And the only way to cope before it goes away is by using benzos or antipsychotics. However I think that it would have never go away for me. I upped to 30 max. I spent 2 weeks on 30 and really thought I was dying. I dropped to 20, impossible to continue like this. Starting a SSRI can be a nightmare. Watch for changes in anxiety. If it continues like this after weeks, it may never end. Maybe another one would be better. This effect is supposed to go away. But I think it doesn't always for some people.
