burping...more information from a newbie
« on: March 14, 2006, 01:11:57 PM »
I am mid 50s, menopausal and dwelling upon my health, worried about cancer and did some burping which I am convinced is stomach cancer. I have had major disease ( in my mind ) since childhood and have survived them all ( humor ), but this one has me perplexed in that should I have the upper endoscopy suggested by the doctor since I told him I was burping...he replied, in a non comprehending way of what this would do to my nerves, that rarely it is stomach cancer! All I had to hear and now, I have it. I am sure. Burping all of the time, as a result. I seem to have programed my stomach in this sick way, to torture myself with symptoms. Scared...just how far do I go to see if this is real, or assume it isn't and if it were, would I want to even know since stomach cancer is not a good thing to have. If I were going to die anyway, why know? This is where I am. Any input?

Tomorrow I go to a PA to tell her about my symptoms.Tonight, I am thinking of symptoms and thinking maybe I lost weight and have cancer and all those horrible thoughts we all get.... I am hoping she will say it is just anxiety and not order tests. Will keep you posted; need support and help, as do all of us on this page. Thanks, Karin

Went to the PA who was compassionate, understanding and said the odds of stomach cancer are very low, mostly men and asian and with different symptoms than mine. But, she consulted with the doctor and they both felt that the only way for me to NOT worry was to do the upper endoscopy of which I am now terrified. I am scheduled to do it Monday and I worry that they will 1. find something and the 2. it will be awful to go through.  Watched a video on it and it does not look like a fun thing, so am now terrified, not to mention the worries that something could go awry and I could have a perferated intestine or something. So the question is: do I do it? Anyone want to weigh in on this topic? Does going for testing when it is primarily fear, help? My burping, she said, could be for a variety of reasons such as nerves, menopause, ibs....swallowing air....etc. etc., functional dyspesia.

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have gone through endoscopy....it`s not really that bad! Go there....And you will find PEACE. They will tell right away, that there`s no cancer etc.

I visited doctor today, because I`m convinced I have stomach cancer......he said NO. Your problem sounds like reflux, I have it, and it`s very common.

And this burping problem is so common symptom, that even I have it (I`m 24). I have this problem everyday, and I have some major upper stomach pains, but docs say it`s just anxiety, reflux or dyspepsia. Honestly, dont worry! I know, and I bet you know it too, that only way to put your mind at peace, is to go to endoscopy, and Docs telling you everything is ok.
