PTSD after dog attack - advise?
« on: November 05, 2010, 11:12:05 PM »
I joke about my PTSD after my dog and I were attacked about a month ago, but it's true. Even though my dog and I got away with minor injuries, and my dog is completely healed (he's only 8 months old, and really friendly to everything on the planet), I haven't been able to resume walking him on the daily basis we used to do. We live in a rural area, so lots of people have dogs, but not all of them take care of them like they should (the dogs that attacked us hadn't been vaccinated or licensed). I can handle the dog park, but if we're anywhere that there's the slightly possibility for another dog to show up, I freak out. If I hear a dog barking, but don't see one, I assume there's a dog that's loose. I'm terrified that we'll be attacked again, but this time I won't be able to stop it from really hurting or killing my puppy. I carry a big stick, and try to walk with friends if I can, but this has seriously ruined an activity I used to enjoy a lot (it also didn't help my GAD). Any advice?

Thanks!

Hi there ...

I would seek out a master Practitioner of Time Line TherapyŽ whom would be able to assist you in dealing with both the anxiety and the affects of the dog situation.

The Time Line Therapy Association is based in the USA too.  Perhaps look at the website...

www.timelinetherapy.net

I think you can contact them through there --- I'll have to look and check .... or maybe you can google them .
