Any success with "future fear"
« on: November 03, 2010, 04:54:50 PM »
New to the site, and want to know if anyone has any problems with projecting into their future?  Like making plans, or just imagining?  I deal with OCD thoughts about harm, but I can have anxiety that will not let me feel like I am going to make it another hour.  The anxiety drives the OCD, not the other way around.  Planning for kids activities that are a month away, and it can drive fear into me like I am not going to make it that long?  But I do.  Is this familiar to anyone?

wg34,

I can't help too much other than to say looking ahead was a big reason I made my anxiety worse. I'm a planner, and when my health concern didn't improve, I immediately let it affect my future plans. That caused my anxiety, then depression.

I have worked very hard at not looking much past the day I'm in. I still get sucked into future thoughts, and sometimes I have to do some future planning (retirement, etc.). But I have gotten better at not looking past the next few hours, and I believe that has contributed to my improvement.

If you can somehow just focus a little more on the day you're in, the days ahead won't seem so daunting. Give it a try and good luck.
