Yet another obsession.....
« on: November 01, 2010, 03:36:35 PM »
Hey guys,

Having a really off day today, I have had typical OCD harm obsessions for a while now but because not much seems to be improving I am now becoming terrified of psychosis and schizophrenia. Its been rattling around in my thoughts all day scaring me witless and I seem to be constantly scanning my brain for any 'signs' that it might be happening to. My biggest fear has always been insanity so I've been in a state of panic all day. Has anyone else got this huge fear and can anyone offer advice please?

most people including myself have these thoughts.I have been strugling with these thoughts for at least 9 years.
but this is just an other obssesive thought pattern.I know what it feels and it ruins my days too.I am longing for those old days when these were not present but this is our reality and we have to learn how to live with it.
first thing you should remember is that if you were in a psychotic state you would not have any doubt whether you are in it or not you would simply shift to that state and you would not even recognise it.so keep cool.:)
second you are not the only example.:)
try not to concentrate on these spikes just  walk around it and advance.try breath excercises to reduce anxiety.
physical excercise, may be a walk really works.
hope this helps.

This is an extremely common worry for those with OCD, and I often struggle with it myself.  As the above poster noted, if you were developing psychosis, you wouldn't realize that it was happening.  The fact that you are worrying about it suggests that it isn't going to happen.  Another thing to keep in mind is that OCD does not progress into a psychotic disorder.  Just remember these things when you start to worry (though I understand it's not that easy).

This is something I've had thoughts about too. I'm always scared I'm going to go crazy and develop schizophrenia and then it makes me start questioning everything in my head. The thing is, if we had schizophrenia we wouldn't be afraid of having it.. we probably would think it was normal. But I know how you feel, probably my biggest fear is something wrong with me in my head to where I go crazy and can't function in society

Man,  i've been there before.  Before I was diagnsed with ocd,  i thought i was schizophrenic.  I had no idea what i even had. and that
was worse.  but it is just another stupid thought taking up valuable space in our heads.  breathing works,  and also Prayer.  I have
had some tough times but Prayer has ALWAYS gotten me through it.  Stay tough,  keep on track.  what you are going through is something
that me and others have went through so you are not alone.
