Help! Worried.
« on: October 30, 2010, 11:33:35 AM »
I found this knot in my left arm..and to begin with it was near the vein where my elbow is and then it went up right above it. And sometimes I get this sharp pain up my neck toward the back of my head..and my arm will go numb a little bit ..knowing me if it's a clot it'll go straight for my brain not my heart. It hasnt moved anymore but I'm getting a dizzy sensation. This is way too scary.

why would you think it was a clot?

If it was a clot--it has to pass through the lung/heart before it is sent out through the body again.

sounds much more likely you were feeling a knot in a tendon or maybe a spasm of some sort.  Arms can feel numbish when nerves are impinged--this can happen anywhere along a nerve route from the back on down.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

could be disk issues. I have them up and down my back.  My neck is in the worst shape with two disks-at vertebrae 2/3 and 5/6. My vertebrae,at one point presses, on my spinal cord a bit. The 5/6 disk is severely herniated disk there that protrudes out. I can push it in and out.  I have a stiff neck all the time.  My mid back is numb, for twelve years, from a disk issue.  I sometimes have issues with numbing/tingling.  I even have some diminshed nerve function.  But guess what, it doesn't really impair my day to day life.  It certainly has nothing to do with blood clots.  At some point I may have to have disk surgery, but if I do, I do.

MOST people have issues with disks.  The back takes a lot of pressure.

it is more likely your anxiety causing these pains.  I don't know what kind of fluid you are talking about that would collect at your neck.

Spinal fluid at the back of my neck. Right where my spine connects to my brain. I feel like I am running a fever , I am extreamly dizzy..my neck is horribly stiff..and this feeling isn't going away. Which makes m e jump to theses conclusions.

spinal fluid wouldn't pool at your neck.

your aches/pains are most likely muscular in nature.

I recommend a good massage!  I have had similar pains but they have all been caused my carrying myself very tense and not really relaxing my muscles.  Being tense can make you feel like you've been hit by a truck.
