Which generic version of zoloft is the best?
« on: October 16, 2010, 04:37:36 PM »
Hello!
I was wondering if anyone has had better success on a certain type of generic zoloft? Right now, I am on Camber Pharmacy  generic Zoloft (sold at Kroger pharmacy)
I don't know if it is the side effects of the generic zoloft is making me sick ( Lower abdominal cramping, Loss of appetite, loose bm's (Sorry TMI) and weight loss due to lack of appetite) Or if  Zoloft is too stimulating for me. I was on prozac before and it was even more stimulating than Zoloft :/
I have been on 12.5 mg almost 6 weeks and I have seen minimal improvement of my anxiety.. I do realize that I am at a "below therapeutic" dose, but when I tried to bump up to 18.75 mg, I became more nauseous.. I was at 18.75 for approx 2 weeks. I tried to taper back down to 12.5 but my anxiety became worse.
I am at the point where I either find a better generic zoloft, pay extra for the real zoloft, or switch to a different SSRI. I am also on Klonopin .5 divided into .25 doses morning/night.
If anyone has any suggestions or info, I would appreciate your input!
Thanks so much!
Michelle

Michelle

in order for a med to be considered a generic for any name brand--it has to have the same exact active ingredients.  It has to function in the same way. Having said that I know that the active ingredients and inactive ingredients may have minute differences so it doesn't always work that way.  I also know that with cardiac meds and seizure meds it is especially recommended that you not go from name brand to generic or back and forth as even small changes can be very bad.  I have a daughter on 3 name brand seizure meds so we have to stick with the name brand because that is what she started with.  I talked to another person recently and she takes a generic of Allegra for allergies.  If the generic is changed, she notices a difference.

Typically--and this is from pharmacists and neuros---if you start on one generic or name brand of a med, it is best to stick to the one that you got the first time or that your body is used to.  While the generics have the same active ingredients as the name brands, the inactive ones may vary from generic to generic or the name brand.  Also understand that in any one month Kroger or Target or Wal-Mart or Walgreens may change generic brands depending on pricing.   So if the generic you are using now is doing you some good, try and stick with that generic.  IF you are not finding relief, then you may want to up your dose OR change meds entirely.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

Thanks for the info, sixpack! I am sticking with the camber zoloft .. I did notice that they switched my klonopin from mylan to teva.. I wonder if that is what is causing the nausea and abdominal cramps? I am thinking of calling my pdoc today to see what he says..
I also am dealing with an ovarian cyst so who knows, maybe the cyst is causing the problems.. Oh the joys of being a woman! lol!!
