Hello all. I'm a 23 year old male with add and gad. I'd like to get some feedback on the idea of "letting people know through social networking sites that you have gad"

My thinking is that it could eleviate the "socially related" anxiety of gad; which inturn could help fight off depression. In particular, the depression that comes from when I isolate myself from friends and peers, because of the embarrassment of  being in a "bad gad state"

Note: the board sensors the obvious social network site im refering too. It ryhmes with casebook lol

This is my first post, and I'd like to hear your opinions and feedback.

Thanks.

Hello              :action-smiley-065:

Welcome

Whatever you feel comfortable doing, do it, if you feel comfortable
by using social networking and posting on 0457...so be it.

Personally I wouldn't, I only tell close friends and family, I'm really
not interested in telling the world of my anxiety problems, I'm not
looking for attention.

Have a good day

Thanks for the reply. I guess for me the desire to do so comes from the feeling that i have a decent amount of friends that ive always acted not in a most genuine way around.  So the only friends I goto in times when im fawkked are like 3/4 friends who dont live close to where i live.

Just wanna start off fresh and honest once my ssri meds kick in.

I'm actually on a two week hiatus from school from this anxiety shheeaat

anywayssss... You're right i guess it is just what ever i feel comfortable with, thanks duude.

Hey,

I definitely think you need to do whatever makes you feel comfortable.  I'm a bit like you.  When I went through my first major bout with anxiety, I was in my mid 20s and I retreated from my social life for a few months.  When I started to go out with my friends again, I was very direct with many people I knew.  When asked where I had been, I responded with honest, direct answers - "I've been dealing with severe anxiety".

I certainly don't think it would be attention seeking and if you feel it would more comfortably ease you back into your life, I say go for it.  I would probably use humour - change my status to "currently on a hiatus from life to address anxiety - look forward to seeing you all soon"... something like that :).

As a social anxiety sufferer, I think it would help break the ice. When meeting some1 new, I sometimes panic especially if they're really n2 me. So 2 keep from pulling a "Cinderella" move (disappear w/o warning), I let new people n my life know upfront. This way I earn acceptance prior & dont have 2 deal with the "what if's." Do whatever makes u feel comfortable & if it doesnt work out n your favor then move 2 plan B. U r n control!
