Do you ever feel like you're wierd?
« on: February 21, 2007, 08:03:59 PM »
well, I have PTSD from living with my alcohlic, abusive mother who happens to be bi-polar, so there was always crazy stuff in my childhood (btw: I am a girl so she is my same-sex parent) and my anxiety comes in so many diffrent forms its almost unbelievabe to me.

I have depression, specific phobias (many of them), I had OCD as a kid and now it is kindof coming back in random bouts. I have a compulsive eating disorder and have frequent panic attacts. Though I am a really friendly person and dont actually fear people, I hate leaving the house and dispise things like class rooms and I get overwelmed by so many things.

All this makes me feel wierd and abnormal, so I was REALLY hoping to find other people who have similar problems and/or feel the same way

thanks folks!

I think you've come to the right place!  I'm sure that alot of people on this forum know exactly what you're feeling.  I hope you get the help and support you need!

Yes.  I know that I do.

I heard a fellow make a case recently for getting the experience of anxiety out of the closet so to speak as the first step in feeling better,  for two reasons --

first, he noted that lots of people suffer from various forms of anxiety, but never say anything about it for exactly the same reason you mention

and

second, he claimed that until we own up to having something, we can't let go of it.

That seemed to make a lot of sense to me and I have been pleasantly surprised at how well it works when I do it.  Thing is, I get quite nervous when I think about admitting to someone new why I am avoiding.

Oh well.

I chaulk my anxiety and panic to my abusive mother who has borderline personality disorder.  Actually mental problems are all over in both my parents lines so I really didnt have a chance.

I do feel wierd alot.  Knowing I'm not the only one helps.  I have worked on me forever and have come a long way.

I'm afraid of classrooms how weird is that?  I've faced death and am afraid of walking into a classroom.  So I'm a bigger coward than anyone and I'm only fooling myself.  It's true I went to Honduras and I'm scared of a classroom because I'm afraid of being judged.  So I got no right to judge anyone and I ain't going to say anything about the rest of it unless somebody asks.

I'd say  the cotiual abuse is bad for the lad and if  she becomes physical abusive towards you or your child then you should call the authorities.  If you won't stand up for yourself stand up for your son and show him what is right.
