Curious about correlation between palpitations and stomach
« on: September 21, 2010, 06:28:37 PM »
I have be paying attention to when I feel palpitations. I am noticing an increase or onset of palpitations when my stomach is growling, full, bloated, in pain, or gassy.

I notice them more when my stomach has gas bubbles and I can feel the pressure. Or I'll have a palpitation and right after or shortly after I'll belch.

I suspect it's irration of the 10th crannial nerve (the vagus nerve) since that nerve controls some of the more important aspects of bodily function including the heart and the stomach. But I'm not sure if others have noticed!

I have noticed this as well. I get them a lot when I am either hungry or after i have just ate. I get anxious about eating because of it but if i don't eat then they will be there as well so it's a tricky situation. I wondered if anyone else noticed it so I am glad you made this post.

I have always wanted to post this but I wasn't sure how to word it or if I am just crazy and trying to pay way too much attention when I am hungry or after eating. I get anxious a lot as well after I eat because of this. I really freak out if I overeat.

My friend who is an internist/cardiologist said that in some individuals intestinal disturbances
can increase palpitations.

id even go as far to say that what feels like palpitations is just big air bubble moving around.
at least, that's what I think happens to me sometimes.
the vagus nerve theory holds alot of water too.
good deduction :)

The vagus nerve is the main reason for palpitations in most individuals. Go to this website....http://palps.chemicalforums.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl

It is from a retired neurologist who discusses why these palpitations occur...has a full forum, where he answers questions on it. The vagus nerve basically runs through your stomach, heart, lungs, and throat, and when this nerve is irritated such as when there are digestional disturbances, it can cause palpitations...but that doesnt mean your heart has any problem with it once so ever...It is a very usful website and I encourage you to look at it

I read RLRs forum faithfully. My main point was to figure out how many have noticed the trend and to show that its no something wrong but an effect within our systems that is normal.   ;)
