Fibro and anxiety
« on: February 21, 2007, 12:05:45 PM »
The Doctor will not give me any pain meds...he says they wont touch Fibro pain.  He says I just have to learn to live with it.

But the pain brings out my anxiety big time!!  So I am in pain and irritable and my head feels awful.  I dont know what to do...

heh, I wonder how he would feel if he had pain he "just had to learn to live with"

I dont really have any good suggestions, just wanted to sympathise apple.

I dont really know about fibro, would something like deep heat help, maybe ? Is it your muscles that hurt or is it a
nervous system thing ?

What about one of those electronic pain controller thingies ? I think they are called TENS and you need a prescription
to get one.

Thanks Basm  your sweet  :happy0151:

Its muscle and joint pain...cold aggrivates it, heat is the only thing that helps however I'm also swollen so the heat is no good today.

Since the Doc wont give me pain killers I'm going in tomorrow to see if he will give me an anti-inflammatory.  I'm allergic to ASA and motrin so there isnt much out there I can take.

There has got to be another way to deal with this than just SUFFER  >:(

Oh one of those tens things would be a dream come true  :grinning-smiley-003:  Just got to find me a doc that would give me some.........

I always feel as if society in general and especially doctors see a problem as you are over reacting or exagerating. Which is alwful! Because I'm sure if they were in your position they would defiantly see it your way. you dont deserve to live in pain but unfortuantly I do not have any record breaking ideas. Sorry. But you a strong person for living with it, I cant imagine being in constant pain like that.

And good luck!

Thanks comeasyouare  I know you would help if you could.

Well, I was determined yesterday to find a new doc if things didnt go well yesterday.  But my Doc was real good!  He finally gave me a perscription for pain meds and an anti-inflammatory.   :sign0060:

So who knows...maybe I can feel a little relief and not be so cranky!!  Thanks for being here for me to vent my frustration.

Hi apple:

I have docs say that to me too.."can you just live with it".  I have tendinitis in both my elbows and had years of throbbing pain and I tried anti-inflams and they didn't work, the pain got worse and drove my mood way down.  I'm not sure if I was depressed but it was very hard to be in pain all the time.  I feel for you.  I'm glad you got something and I hope they work for you.  I understand the cranky thing too!  I would yell out sometimes in frustration!  These days my elbows are better.  I know I have a chronic condition and baby my elbows along.  I hope youfind relief.

take care, ladyK

Hi ladyK    I'm sorry you have to deal with constant pain also.  It makes you irritable and cranky..then you feel depressed because yuor anxiety is always up and the ones you love have to deal with you this way.  Not a nice way to live.

The pain meds are taking the edge off the pain.  :happy0151:  My 6 year old told Dad that Mom was happy today all day!!  She was so excited.  It made me feel good.  yet in the back of my mind I felt bad that this was such a big thing for her..Mom feeling cranky a lot.  I hope this continues to work because I want it to be a regular thing that Mom is happy.

My doc gives me Lortab and muscle relaxers.  Without the Lortab I wouldn't be able to do what I need to do.  It helps with the pain and gives me a little energy.  You might try a pain management specialist if your doc isn't helping.  Anxiety does make it hurt more but what are you gonna do when sometimes it comes at you from all sides?  Also, I have to work and can't call iln sick when I'm hurting.  I hate this stuff!!!!!!
