Hi Sparkely88,

Your experience sounds familiar.  During my high anxiety times it sometimes comes out in the form of insomnia.  You mentioned being worried if you will ever get sleep and I know what it's like because I've asked myself that question too.  The answer is that yes for certain you will eventually get sleep.  Your body and mind will get so tired that you will fall asleep without even thinking of it.  It is surely annoying though when you are tired and you want to sleep but your body and mind have different ideas.  I assure you though you will get some sleep. :)  Insomnia can only last so long and then it will have run its course and things will go back to the usual.  I have tried melatonin and it worked for me although it gave me some vivid dreams, but it might not have that effect on everyone.  I've also tried drinking chamomile tea or sleepytime tea made by: Celestial Seasonings.  That has helped me too.  I have experienced anxiety attacks in the night too which makes it even more intense cause not only are you losing sleep then you naturally start getting upset about it which is totally understandable and natural considering anxiety is increased by fatigue. And if you start having strange thoughts it's only the anxiety talking due to the fatigue so don't worry about it. It can turn into a bit of a cycle but that cycle will ease because it always does so I try and keep telling myself that.   I don't know what age your son is but maybe if he naps during the day you would be able to sleep during the day too for a bit to help break the cycle?  This is just another suggestion that has helped me.  If I kinda just go with the flow and tell myself "Well if I can't sleep tonight, I'll just sleep a little bit during the day."   I feel for you though and hopefully it helps a little to know that someone else has been through it too.  I just saw the date on your post and realized it was from a few days ago.  I haven't been on here for a bit. Hope you will check back on here and see my response and i hope you are getting more sleep.
