my own experiences with anxiety
« on: August 31, 2010, 05:10:07 PM »
Hello yawl,

I have only signed up on this site a few moments ago, and I thought I would share some of my experiences and thoughts with you. I feel, when searching about anxiety on the internet, it comforting to hear about others experiences as a way to relate what I have to others, and hopefully gain perspective on the issue. That is why I have decided to just write about how I feel.

My anxiety stays with me all the time, to a lessor or greater degree; however, when it is really bad I find it difficult to function even with menial tasks. I think about something potentially bad like people might think I'm stupid, or that I will be unable to perform at a new job if given one. Also, there is a general, intangible feeling always like something is wrong, but I don't know what. This causes me not to be able to concentrate on anything but obsessing about how I don't feel good/not acting right. Sometimes I will pace back and forth talking to myself about how I am feeling. This, undoubtably does not help anything, but I don't know how else to deal with these symptoms/habits/problems.

hi wildcard

welcome to our group.  I think you will find good support and other coping strategies here.   From what you've written you have some pretty typical anxiety symptoms.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

Hello             :action-smiley-065:

Welcome, sure you will find this site helpful and supportive.

Sounds like you have a touch of Social Anxiety, reason being, I have
Social Anxiety and what you have stated is the same way I feel, people
are looking and judging me, always thinking something negative about
me, think I'm stupid and the list goes on.

These intrusive thoughts can be debilitating at times, first, realize they are
only thoughts and you don't have to react to them, try to ignore them.
(Easier said than done).

Have you ever palyed the, " What If " game ?   " What if  " I can't do it, people
will think I'm stupid,  " What if  " I do this,  " What if  " I do that, " What if "
people think this, etc etc.

I am on a mild anti anxiety medication which I take several times a day,
the medication helps tremendously.

You may want to consider seeking some professional advise.

All I can say is, don't let anxiety get the best of you.

Once again, welcome and have a good day.
