« on: August 31, 2010, 10:53:06 AM »
ive spent just about the past 3 years in community college and have gone nowhere. i tried different classes in different majors and i still dont know what i want to do with my life. i get no support from my parents anymore who think im wasting their money. i feel like im wasting my life and i feel my gf thinks im a loser because im not going anywhere. its depressing me mso much thinking im wasting my life.

im good at a lot of things math english, i like using my hands and solving different problems. i like science too but theres just a limited amount of degrees at my community college and im running out of ideas. i want ot be able to live on my own soon and working at a deli isnt doing much for me. i need to get my life straight that way my family doesnt drop me and neither does my gf.

i started my fall semester yesterday takign some business courses like accounting and micro economics but im not feeling it and i only have a couple days to switch courses with no penalty. ive taken some medic classes too and got my cert as an emt but lost interest in being a medic too especially not gettig hired.  i need help

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. im losing my piece of mind and i cant take it for too long.
any support and ideas for school, anything at all would be greatly appreciated.

Your putting so much stress on yourself!! My friend who is like 10 yrs older than me told me that she was 30 and she still didn't know what she wanted to do with her life. Your not alone! This is what I did. I sat in silence and I made a huge list. A list of what I feel my life purpose would be. Write everything you love down and everything you would consider a career. When you get to the point that you wanna stop, don't! Keep going and keep doing this until you find that one thing that makes you cry. Or at least hits you so hard your positive its ur purpose. It sounds stupid but I did this and I now have a goal for my life

Maybe you aren't depressed because you can't make a decision, maybe you got depressed first and you lost your interest in school and the subjects you used to care about? And then that makes you even MORE depressed and it's just a vicious cycle.

But anyway, it's normal to not be sure what you want to "do with your life" and it's exactly because we use that phrase to talk about it. When you pick a major in college you feel like you're saying "Alright, that's it, I'm committed, I'm going to die doing something in this field" but that's just not true.

I would say don't pressure yourself to commit to anything for the rest of your life. Just find something you like NOW and don't worry about later.

I'm feeling you on this, I have some of the same problems. I get very anxious about my major and think "But do I want to do this forever?" I mentioned that feeling to a professor of mine once and he gave me some good advice. What I've mentioned to you was some of what he said.

Hello              :action-smiley-065:

I remember when I started college, had no idea as to a major, so I gave it my
own logic:
1)   there will always be businesses - hence -- Business Degree
2)   people have to eat                 - hence -- Agriculture or Culinary Degree
3)   there will always be sick people -hence --  Medical Degree
Unfortunately I got my degree in Physics, sorry I didn't choose Astronomy, I
find the universe fascinating. ( oh well )

I'm sure whatever you decide to study will be the correct choice

Have a great day

This is a major cliche.... but it is so true.  Do what you love and the money will eventually follow.

I went for the money...and a make a fair amount, but at the cost of doing something I really don't enjoy.
