Hello All! I'm New.
« on: March 04, 2006, 11:38:56 AM »
My name is Amariah and I live in central Illinois (US). I have had GAD for the last 17 years. I am now 27 years old. I am divorced and have two daughters. However, I am also engaged to be married on May 16th of this year.
I take two different medications and see a counselor. It has only been in the last few years that I have realized how debilitating this disorder is. Without the help of medication, it would consume my life. I find it to be a great comfort that there are other people who have the same 'illness.' I look forward to future conversations.

Welcome, hope this site helps you out on your journey.  It is very nice to talk to people that know exactly how you feel.

I'm from Alberta, Canada.  I've suffered for 16 years, have 2 children from a previous relationship and am waiting for my hunny to marry me.  Making this disorder barable for everyone would be good...making it go away forever would be grand.
Sounds like you are in the right direction...

Hello Amariah  :)
Yes, it is wonderful to know there are other people out there who understand what you are experiencing. My family tries to understand but sometimes my daughter just tells me to get a grip. People who've never gone through what we have just don't realize how horrible GAD can be. How much I wish we all could be cured and never have to struggle another day. I take Klonopin to control my anxiety after being on xanax for 2 yrs and my doctor not wanting me to become addicted. I have also started therapy but have only had one session so nothing helpful yet. I wish you all the best on your journey and congratulations on your upcoming marriage. Your fiance must be a very special man and you are blessed to him. Hope to hear from you again. What medications do you take?

Hi there - have either of you ever had a feeling of a lump in your throat that doesn't go away?  I've been doing some research and stumbled across this site - hence my note to you.  GAD seems to fit the description but the one thing that puzzles me is that I don't feel stressed at all?  I just feel ... how do I say... nervous

I take BuSpar and Effexor. Neither of them make me tired.

Hello,
I don't feel "stressed" necessarily. I just feel really nervous all of the time like you. However, I have never felt as though I have a lump in my throat. My biggest symptom is that I feel like I have a tight ball in the middle of my stomach constantly (when I'm not on the meds I mean).

You said it!! your kids are lucky...you keep trying.  My hunny says he stays with me because I never give up...and even when the anxiety seems to be winning I keep trying. Sounds like you are the same kind of person.

you'll do it...your still workin on it
