Just started with Zoloft and Klonopin
« on: August 24, 2010, 10:28:15 PM »
Hey everyone,

I have been suffering from social anxiety for quite a long time, probably around 10 years... but I just recently decided to treat my anxiety with a psychiatrist. Anyway, he prescribed me 50mg of Zoloft to be taken in the morning and 0.5mg of Klonopin to be taken in the night. I have been taking these for 3 days now, but for some reason, I am feeling a bit more anxious and depressed. Anyone know if this is a common effect during the first days of the medication? Would someone like to share his/her experience with these meds.

Thank you

Hi Jony

This is a normal reaction. I haven't been on the meds you mentioned but i had the same reaction when i started Celexa. I had a couple of weeks of heightened anxiety. It often gets worse before you it gets better. However, if you feel overly worried, you should go back and talk to your Dr. Sometimes it takes a while to find the med that's right for YOU

Good luck - I hope you see some improvement soon!  :happy0151:

Hello           :action-smiley-065:           Welcome, sure you find this site helpful.

I have SA also and found Zoloft to increase anxiousness, it usually subsides in time.
Wait till the medication gets into your system which takes about 10-14 days, as for
the Klonopin you shouldn't feel anxious, I take .5mg 6-8 times a day or as needed,
I found this medication works well, for me.

If you get a chance, talk to your doctor about what you are experiencing.

Once again, welcome

I'm sure it's the zoloft causing it. I'm on like day 18 and still have moments of unbearable anxiety and physical symptoms :( I'm only on 25 mg right now. The day I tried to take 3/4 of the 50 mg pill I had heart skips all day and woke up that night in a sweat with my heart racing. I spent the night in the ER :(
I'm still trying to give it a chance but it's not doing much so far. At time I have thought it's starting to help only to feel horrible at night or 1st thing in the morning :(

Is it getting better for you?

Well Hello There..

I was on 150 mg on zoloft- Sertraline for about 2 and a half yrs. In the beginning I had those same side effects and I am happy to say as I'm sure you are to hear they DO go away. Usually within a few weeks. I was on it for a long time though. Too long. So towards the end I got really bad side effects.. (Ex- Tingly hands- sweatty- shiver's - pale- dry mouth- sweating) That's a reason why i got off of it. Of course my doctor asked me right away if I wanted to try another medication and informed me it was because I was on it too long and apparently my body had become immunde to it..

I opted to not go on anything. I didn't want to have to change medication's or alters doses every few months or years. Truth is to me at least and I know many disagree.. medicine is only a tempoary relief of anxiety because your body will always get immune to it. So rather then becoming so dependent on medication, I decided to face it myself. So I'm just facing it.. no more medication.. and it's not that bad. Dont get me wrong some days are definetly worse then others and I look at people on the street and think to myself why cant I be normal.. but I will be. It's all in my head.. and your mind creates it.. you just have to learn how to control your thoughts- on your own.

I hope this helped and I'm sorry im i rambled. Good luck to you =)
