Tip for overcoming Anxiety-conversations
« on: August 22, 2010, 10:07:41 PM »
Learn to rewire your brain so that it takes a new neuro pathway of thinking.  Use Positive Internal dialogue instead of negative dialog.

For example

Negative:  If i attempt to start a conversation with someone i will get anxious and my symptoms will be noticed therefore i will embarrass myself.

Positive:  I just have to relax and talk myself out of feeling panicky.  My anxiety is blowing things out of proportion no one is judging me, what's the worst that is going to happen? The end of the World?

it is true spud---those with SAD or any kind really, really think people are judging or staring etc.  It is part of the faulty thinking.  Overcoming that aspect can really reduce the anxiety.

DON'T ever let anxiety define who you are.  You are NOT anxiety.

Good point spud!

I feel that type of thinking is an obstacle that I tackle daily, but once overcome, my day usually ends up great and stays that way.  I think both polar ends snowballs.  If you think negatively every time, most likely your day will snowball to a continuous of embarrassing moments and decrease of self confidence.  However, once you pick up that one moment you think positively and get a positive outcome and maintain the same attitude, it will have the same opposite effect.  You will start to feel more confident and encounter more plausible moments.

Good on ya Spud ! I think positive self talk is really helpful for all types of anxiety and I know it has got me out of some really tricky situations and ultimately helped me conquer some of my fears.
