« on: August 14, 2010, 09:54:15 AM »
Hi im new here...i have been dealing with anxiety for about 2 years now.. i have one question.. my problem now is when i concentrate on my breathing i start to have severe anxiety about it and feel like i cant get enough air in my lungs.. i find myself trying to yawn all the time and trying to take a deep breath and sometime i get the yawn or deep breath..has anyone had a similar problem? so far i had a chest x-ray and it came back with nothing wrong.  Im looking for a pulmanologist in pittsburgh to make sure there is nothing wrong.  thank you for your time and any help would be greatly appreciate

Yeah that happened to me for like two months straight. I didn't know it was anxiety and it scared me to death. I had that happen the whole way back from the beach which was like a 10 hour trip. It seemed like I was never gonna get home.

I am experiencing issues with my breathing as we speak. That is a very common anxiety symptom that I experience this is on a daily basis. I have tried diaphragmatic breathing and while this is somewhat helpful it is still an issue. It's one of the scariest symptoms ever.

I had this issue for a good 6 months. I just got over it a week or two ago. It felt hopeless for a long time, like I would never be able to live with out worrying about my breathing, but it's finally calmed down. I think the best thing to do is breathing exercises, normal exercise, healthy diet, and just be comfortable with the fact that it's only anxiety. You need to try not to let it get to you. Also, when it was happening I was becoming agoraphobic and had trouble driving long distances. I challenged myself to drive further and further each day. I think this helped me overcome it as well.

Definitely a symptom of anxiety (it's been starting to bother me again lately). In other words, there's nothing to worry about physically. It's just a huge nuisance.

This is all part of the attacks. I have weird breathing during attacks. Making the attack even worse. Scares the crap out of me sometimes. I have learned some good breathing techniques when I feel an attack coming on, though. I have tried to stay away from caffeine for this reason. Relaxation is key.
