« on: August 10, 2010, 01:49:20 AM »
In about 2 weeks my fiance and i are traveling 7ish hours away and this will be the longest ive gone (car wise) so im already freaking out :(
I can only think about having a panic attack into this trip and not knowing what to do..ugh!  I hate staying at hotels (which we are staying at one lol) and i dont even wanna think about waking up in a panic attack that far away!!
As much as i dont want to go, i dont want to let my fiance down this trip means so much to him so i have to man (lady) up hahaha!!

Ok so any help would be great....  thank you!!

Well you have fallen into the old ' what if ' trap already. You are expecting something to happen. Days ahead of yourself. It would be best to try and live in the moment you are in. Because the trip is effecting your life before it even happens. What is nothing was to happen? Million dollar question. You'd probably look for things to happen because it was not normal for nothing to happen. The best thing I can suggest is distraction of some kind. MP3 player. Books. Whatever you are into. And take things as they happen. Not before they happen. Have a talk with your partener. Explain your fears. Maybe you can arrange, between the two, of you to stay at a smaller place. You know what triggers your attacks off. So maybe you can be ready for such things. Even wear an elastic band. You feel an attack coming on, sling the band, ping, on your wrist. It is just another form of distraction. It is something you can do without others noticing it at all. I hope things go well for you.

Yup, what Cuchculan said!! :) And try to focus on the positives of motel life...don't have to clean up after yourself, no cooking, no dishes, etc. :) I always take bubble bath along when traveling and make it a point to have a long soak while we are there. If it is a germ thing...take Clorox wipes and wipe surfaces when you get there. And yes, something to keep your mind occupied on the trip...books, music, etc. I took up knitting and I knit during car trips. There is crochet, jewelry making, garden planning...lots of hobby type things you could do on the road! :) Wishing you the best trip ever!!! :)
