is this just a tummy bug
« on: August 08, 2010, 08:26:31 AM »
just after a bit of help here. my son came home from school thursday and said he had a bad headache and sor chest i thought allergies and gave him panadol and he went to bed. he didn't go to school friday and cause head ache was bad, then he started vomitting so i thought tummy flu and did the usual things like only let him eat dry toast and gave him lots of water and electrolytes it lasted until this morning when he looked and felt much better but then this afternoon he got sick again no vomitting but has a really chest cough and says there is pain down his throat and chest when he breathes. he is 16 and hasn't been sick other then a tooth ache or a bit of sinus in two years. i feel a bit bad cause i have been running around disenfecting surfaces when he touches them and using spray disenfectants in the rooms he goes in but i have 5 other kids i don't want to get whatever it is and 2 are asthmatics. i'm going to ring the doc first thing in the morning but was wondering if anyone had any thoughts cause i have not seen this kind of bug in my kids before.

It does sound like a flu virus teeps, it hit his stomach first then soundls like it's gone onto his chest. Defo call the doc he might give him some anti biotics, might have a touch of a chest infection. I know I had a chest infection once and it sounds the same, really sore and I was vomitting first too. Also gave me my only ever nose bleed  For tonight you're doing the right thing, plenty of fluids and paracetamol. If his stomach has settled, soup and ice cream should be ok. Hope he gets better soon!

And don't feel silly for disinfecting everything!! that's the swine flu paranoia we all got last year, I have a lowered immmune system so I still do the same thing! It is to protect your family, you're not doing anything wrong hun!

I agree with 0122, except about the ice cream.

i gave him chicken noodle soup and jelly tonight and he kept that down. he's not a very good patient because he wanted to go out with his mates today  ::)
i'm just hoping me and the others don't get it , i would imagine my body would find it a bit tough to after the last few weeks of high anxiety and stress but i'm trying not to stress that we will all get it. more worried about my youngest she had rsv as a 6 day old baby and we nearly lost her and has devolped astma from that.

yeah marcs right teeps, prob best to lay off the dairy. You know I've just got up  :happy0151:

And you're gonna stress, it's normal. Just remember he's going to be fine and the odds are you will all be fine too, put the brakes on that wonky thinking.
