ladies - frequent urination, panic and periods
« on: August 07, 2010, 03:02:39 PM »
Hello guys, i am having abit of a hypo relapse at the moment :(
Had really sore boobs this morning and got a bit obsessed with breast cancer ( my nan just finished treatment for it so i am extra aware) decided to chill out and read some magazines, there was articles on breast cancer, yipee. Done about 1000 self checks today on myself.
Also the last hour i have peed 3 times, i am panicking that i have a UTI which will suddenly turn into a serious kidney infection! I have been going slightly more this week but nothing drastic till tonight, now after reading about UTIS and kidneys on the internet i feel like i have pressure on my bladder, it's uncomfortable. However i am also due on my period soon... i come on the 10th last month and the one before so i wasn't expecting it just yet but do u think that could possibly be it? I am a little bloated  but that might be because i have eaten alot today, if it is an infection will my kidneys go downhill fast without antibiotics?

Did you go through this once before-I feel like I remember posting to you before.  I've had a looong history of uti's and kidney infections.  I've had a zillion uti's but have only had them travel to my kidneys 5-6 times and that is because I was completely negligent about treating the problem.  If it happens you would know-fever, very painful kidney, nausea, etc.  Even then it is very treatable.  Please try to be calm and know that what you are worried about isn't worth the anxiety.

No worries-my whole life has become a rerun of panic over this disease, then that, then that, then back to the first to start all over again!  It's very easy to get tested for a uti and to get it taken care of so that there is no need to worry about it traveling to your kidney but even if it did, it is still very treatable and would prevent any permanent kidney damage.

I think the bladder is one area of the body that is very highly sensitive to anxiety. When you are in a panic you always pee more and I expect you just noticed this and then started to focus on it and then started to get odd sensations, and so the cycle begins. I had months of obsessing over my bladder, and I had test after test for UTIs which were all negative. In the end I think I basically had given myself an irritable bladder just by focusing on it. I used to get a lot of UTIs and I have had them for a couple of weeks before without taking any antibotics and have always been fine. If you do have one they are easily treated and it is pretty rare for them to travel to your kidneys, but I would say you probably don't have one.

It panics me because my mum was given antibiotics for hers once and it made her soo ill she was sick, but not only that, i have huge trouble swallowing pills so what do i do?? :( i did have 2 cups of green tea today and a glass of wine tonight which seemed to start off the more frequent going, i do have this every so often and it always scares me, and cattia your right i just keep squeezing my bladder every 2 mins and poking it to see if i have the urge to go!
I know i get this when i am anxious because once someone broke in next door and while we waited for the police i was peeing every 2 seconds, but whenever i go it is a hugee amount! but i still always hate it.

There is a natural supplement that I have taken before called D Manose which is meant to be really good for treating UTIs. There is a shop near me that sells it but I am in the UK so not sure of the availability if you are in the States. It is basically made or a kind of tree resin. If you did need to take antibiotics most of the broad spectrum ones like amoxcicillin are well tollerated, and also come in capsules of powder that could be opened or you could crush tablets up and take them with food. I really suspect though that it is just something you are focusing on.

I have also had a UTI which turned into a kidney infection ( I am fine now ) and there is no way you could just ignore it. I suspect, like me, you worry about not catching things in time.  I was really ill and feverish. The doc treated me with anti bacterials and  I recovered fairly quickly. I would reiterate what hypo said in that it was so easily treatable and common. It was only when I shared my kidney infection story did I realise how many people have had one!

I always need to pee when I am anxious and when I think about it. Just think about when you are on a long journey and you think " I am going to end up needing the loo" and lo and behold you do because you have talked yourself into it.
