READ THIS BOOK!!!

I have found the greatest book ever for worriers. It is called The Worry Cure by Robert L. Leahy, PhD. I highly recommend this book for all of us. I have read pretty much every book out there for anxiety, panic, and OCD, but this is the BEST!! I actually refer to it like a bible, and have little tabs all over it. It has really saved me in those times when I can't get out of my own head, and makes me think of the situation rationally. One passage in the book he talks about a friend of his that is a stock trader on-line. His friend would sit by the computer day in and day out looking for patterns in the stock because he was obsessed about losing all his money. Dr. Leahy points out that if people look to closely they will find patterns that don't exist. Another stock trader friend said that it would be virtually impossible to see those types of patterns on a day to day basis; maybe on a year to year basis. This could be applied to checking your temperature 25 times a day, or reviewing your blood test over and over again, looking for some sort of 'sign'. I'm telling you guys...go out and get this book..you won't regret it!!!! :yes:

thanks AYKM,  That sounds very promising.  I have the weekend off from work which usually means more free time to worry and obsess.  Maybe instead I'll go check out that book.   :yes:   HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND.

This sounds like a very useful book. Is is cbt based? The book that helped me is called Been There, Done that? DO THIS! by Sam Obitz and it sounds very similar to what you are talking about in the obsessive thinking and teaches you exercises like one called a tea form that help you identify and correct the thinking errors that cause most anxiety. I do them almost everyday and my life is finally going the way I want after suffering most of my life. Any book that helps you learn not to obsess or freak yourself out is a great book in my opinion.

Yes, very much in agreement, that Obitz book is as good as ANY for discussing TEA forms and CBT!

CBT is cognitive behavioral therapy. It teaches you how to retrain your brain to catch and correct the thinking errors that cause anxiety and depression. The TEA form is the main thought countering exercise used in cbt that helps you learn to eliminate most of your anxiety with continued use of it. I still do tea forms almost everyday and I am making more progress all the time. They are hard at first but get easier with practice and give a surprising amount of relief but it takes a lot of effort and self discipline to get in the habit of doing them everyday but in my experience has been the best thing for my anxieties and panic. I am reading that book and it is great. very good information. I have been suffering the pasr 8 years and really bad. i do say the summer is better for me some. I can really see this book helphing out and at times i can't put it down.
