General Sadness
« on: August 01, 2010, 01:34:08 PM »
I have suffered from anxiety for a long time.   I now have better control of it, and I find that my anxiety is more controllable and does not last as long.

However I find that if I do manage to shake anxious feelings I am left with a real feeling of sadness (like grief or loss).  What is strange is there is no particular reason, it is just there and will last for hours or days.

I just wanted to know if anybody else gets this.

I get this too - there are periods where if I'm not anxious, I'll be "blue". Strangely enough they never occur together though...not sure if it's just the body adjusting to the changes in chemicals or what...if I just hang in there for a day or so it usually goes away.

GreenThumb:  You are right, these two never come together.    Thanks.

My anxious periods always lead to high emotion, crying and depression. It's never the other way around.

Yup, yup..

Me too. It usually follows a few days of high anxiety. Then as the anxiety abates, I'll get a chemical dump that makes me really sad for about an hour or two.

I have this too... I feel this sort of light depression as a response to the anxiety, because when the anxiety is over I understand how exhausting and terrible it is...

Same thing with me.For example, today I felt "blue" and almost no anxiety at all.It could be chemicals in the brain.I also notice that I never cry when I'm anxious, but only when I'm feeling "blue".Sometimes I think that that's our response to realistic problems. For instance, lack of girlfriend/boyfriend,lack of money, lack of someone close to us,death,etc.etc.Let's not forget that even people without anxiety issues also have "blue" days.

I feel that "general sadness" too.
I think it stems from the fact that we have to deal with our anxieties over and over again.
It's nice to get a break from them but they seem to unevitably return.

I think that long-term anxiety can alter your mind/body chemistry so much that your "feel good" chemicals are not
working like they should.
It seems like a fairly common sensation.
