Anxiety making life hard
« on: July 21, 2010, 02:31:47 PM »
My name is Diana, I am 20 years old.I've always been anxious but i've never felt the physical symptoms until April of this year.I experienced my first panic attack and it really scared me.I think I have social anxiety and i'm trying to understand what is triggering my anxiety.Right now I am taking 10 mg of Lexapro and sometimes take Ativan if I'm really in need of it.The lexapro has helped a bit,but i still get anxious on a regular basis.I'm glad I found this forum. And i wish everyone only the best!We will overcome our struggles!

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

I took 10 mg. of lexapro for a year and a half and it helped me tremendously.  I had very minimal anxeity while taking it and didn't wake up with racing thoughts all the time which was awesome!  I started having some health issues and had to switch medications unfortunately.  Lexapro has been the only med that has really helped me so I hope it works for you.

I'm so glad you found us! I found this forum last year when I was going through the exact same thing as you. I knew I was an anxious person but never had a panic attack until last year and they were awful. I got to the point where I could barely leave the house. It was crazy. One thing that helped me was keeping an anxiety journal. Anytime I felt anxious.. I would write the time, what the weather was like.. what I'd eaten that day etc. This helped me figure out what triggered things. I am now on meds and I don't know where I would be without this forum. It literally saved my life. I'm so glad we all have eachother and aren't alone in our struggle.

Best of luck to you too!! ;D
