new member needing advice
« on: February 22, 2006, 10:51:18 PM »
My name is will and here is my problem.  in November I was having chest pains, thought I was having a heart attack.  Went to E.R, came home nothing.  In Jan, 2006 happened again same story.  tests came back neg, palpitations is what i had.  Ever  since then I am afraid to got to sleep at night I feel as I am going to die in my sleep.  This is affecting me tremendously, as soon as i come home from work at night the pains develop in my chest again, the ddoctor said it is caused by anxiety.  I start thinking these thoughts about my two children 6 and 2 and them not growing up with a father.  This is affecting me every night .  It is to the point I don't want to come home from work because i KNOW THE CYCLE WILL CONTINUE.  Does anyone have any advice.

Well for starters not coming home is allready leaving your kids without you.  There are meds that can help and behavior therapy.  If you travel down this road you will only get worse without help.  Under medications and therapy on this forum I have a medication table-different kinds....I don't know if this has been long term or just recent for you...The Benzodiazepines in this chart are anti-anxiety medications which may be all you need to use only when needed, the rest are anti-depressants that can control anxiety.  Maybe copy the chart and talk to your doctor about if one of these are for you.

Best of luck

Will I would say in the short run you probably need some meds but you should also look into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I am currently weaning off my meds that I have been taking for about five years. Before I learned CBT and the TEA form thought countering exercise I did not think I would ever be able to wean off meds but now I am hopeful and so far I am not having any problems but I still have a couple weeks to go before I am completely off so I am not out of the woods yet.
