i need advice - alcohol and anxiety
« on: January 31, 2007, 02:47:16 AM »
Does anyone have advice?  I went through something recently.  I have had anxiety disorder for 6 years (at this point I was not a drinker).  A lot of the time I deal with it  well (no meds etc).  Since the event, I have been drinking heavily to cope.  I am at the point where I can barely function.  I shake so badly that i need to drink more and have trouble interacting with people.  Some days, I drink almost all day.  I have also lost the support system and comfort I usually rely on.  Any thoughts?

You probably know that alcohol does make you anxiety worse as it depletes some of the good chemicals in your brain.

I think that the best thing you could do is to get some help, this is not something you can or should do alone.  Call a psychiatrist, they can evaluate you and tell you what steps you can take to get you off the alcohol and maybe get you on some meds that could help you with the anxiety and the withdrawl from alcohol.  Alcohol is not the answer for anxiety, it only makes it worse in the long run and it destroys your body and mind.

There are a lot of very caring people on this board to listen and support you.  Please let us know how you are doing.

Drink only carlsberg 5 times maybe 6 times weekly and am trying to cut it down alot.      Am 26 mae and have been drinking for a while and certainly dont help anxiety atall one bit thoughts become overwelming and intense and feel the only way to cope is to drink more right?
Well need to try and get some help  as  so dependant on it see a counceller and they can help with the underlying factors of the drink like why need to drink the reasons etc.
Drinking only makes me  feel aggressive and moody and detatched disconnected if drink to much and as for our anxiety its rocketed like unbearable.
Not sure what else to suggest try and get something to get involved in maybe just a thought to take mind of the thought of drink and addiction.
