New to anxiety and the Zone
« on: June 30, 2010, 10:11:30 PM »
Hello everyone, Im here because im desperate. I had my first panic attack around april of 2010 when it first happened I thought I was having a heart attack. I felt hot, dizzy and had to sit down. when I did my hands and feet went numb, totally numb, and my left hand started to tingle and it started to go up my left arm. I thought when it got to my heart I was gonna die! I went to the doctor and he did a bunch of tests including an ECG and everything was fine. So we talked about panic disorder and he says thats what it is. I dunno what caused this but im scarred. I hope anxiety is all it is, its been a life changing experience.

Hi bigbuck

welcome to the ZONE

Part of getting better with anxiety is actually believing it is the cause of your symptoms.  It is sometimes a hard pill to swallow because it seems so unbelievable.  I posted on your other thread that is similar in nature.  Anyway have a good look around.  I'm sure you'll find others that think anxiety doesn't seem to be the answer either.

MOST anxiety happens at the subconscious level.  JUST because you don't feel consciously anxious or had a day or two of calm doesn't mean your mind & body are relaxed.  It can take months of reduced anxiety before a body goes back to a more non-reactive state.

Hey Buck,

Like to say hello and welcome to this site, sure you will find it helpful.
I suffer from anxiety also and have similar symptoms...they feel real but end
up being nothing, just my mind playing tricks.
once again welcome.

Take care

Hello, I am also new here and just experienced my first panic attack.  I thought I was suffering from a heart attack at first and called 911.  I had those exact feelings!  That was a week ago today, but I think I'm having recurring smaller attacks because my heart will ramdomly race, I get sweaty palms, and start shaking.  Did this happen to you as well?  I'm in the middle of testing my heart with a Cardiologist to be on the safe side, but this is the scariest thing that's ever happened to me!

Buck,
I have been suffering from anxiety for many years, so I know exactly how it feels and it is a very scary situation. Alot of people don't suffer from chronic anxiety and it will go away over time. You just have to remember noone has ever died because of anxiety, you just need to learn to breathe and tell yourself everything will be ok. There is support here and people to talk to, so take advantage ;) hope your feeling better
