Losing control.
« on: June 22, 2010, 09:10:55 AM »
I think a common form of anxiety and panic is the idea of not having control of a situation.
Usually when I am presented with a problem I tend to like to fix it right away. If I can't or if an obstacle presents that gets in the way of me fixing a problem and I start to lose control  I tend to panic. I may spend hours upon hours trying to find ways to fix the problem, if I can't fix it as soon as possible I start to get anxiety problems and depression.

Does anyone else do this? I was told recently that it's not a very healthy way to fix problems and that sometimes things are best handled with patience.
Anyone have any tips about trying to change this frame of thinking?

I think all anxiety sufferers have a fear of losing control as a "root" cause to many of their problems.  Hypochondriacs fear losing control of their health,  ocders fear losing control of situations where their fear thing will actually come true, people with panic disorder fear losing control in public places, etc.  I, like you tend to like to try to "fix" things right away because I am also a ruminator.  Unfortunately I don't have any good advice about how not to be this way!

I can relate to this.  I tend to be this way about my computer and some other things(things I want to get done right away).  If something happens to it I will try to fix it right away and tend to push other things aside.  I will try for hours and hours until I'm exhausted.  Then I will worry that I won't be able to fix it and I will worry about it until it's fixed.  It's really annoying sometimes when there are other things that need to be done.
