The Great Dane is the most gentle, loyal, friendly dog I have ever owned.  I've had one for a year now and I want another one!  If you have the room and can handle a giant breed, I can guarantee you'll have yourself the best companion.

Yes! great danes are very docile and they are very friendly. I have one myself, she sleeps sometimes in my bed haha shes just 5 months old but really big. She is just awesome and lovable.

Well think about size, allergies and where you live..also some breeds have better temprements for kids ect. Some dogs some dogs require a lot of exercise and another thing  to consider > if your not working  at home most days..good luck with your search !

Mine is a dalmatian.  How can you not love a spotted dog.  I got her from the rescue.  I had 2 other dalmatians before her as well.  They've all been good dogs.

I love English Bulldogs, they are definitely good cuddle dogs.  They aren't too active and love hanging out on the couch napping :)

I just lost the last of my four cocker spaniels and am also looking into getting another dog. Right now I am leaning toward a minature austrailian shepard. The are just a little bigger than a cocker. Perfect size but still macho and loving !

Throwing in my 2 cents here. :)

I have 2 dogs. One is a pug, the other a shiba inu. The Shiba is smart as a whip and a very pretty, happy go lucky girl. She is, however, very headstrong. She is the boss of the pug. LOL And only wants affection when SHE is in the mood for it. Otherwise, she has the attitude of "I'm busy dearest, come back later and you can pet me then." =P I've read that alot of people get shibas expecting them to be cuddly, lovey dogs all of the time but in my case, and as I understand it, they just are not that way usually. They are alot like cats. They are quite independent and active.

The pug on the other hand, is a lovable, loving, goofball. Very, very sweet boy. He is sleeping against my leg as I type this...he is quite affectionate and tends to be my little shadow. It is my understanding that this is typical of the pug breed.
If I ever add another dog to my family, it will be another pug. No, they arent pretty but they more than make up for that with their big hearts and their comedic/goof personality. :)

I have a golden- named grover. He is VERY friendly, but he's also super hyper and requires a lot of time to play.  He's very loving and sweet though :)

I also have a cat- sammy. Best kitty in the world ^.^

we had a bulldog growing up and my father loved him more than anyone else in the family, but don't get one cause they are overbred and sickly, its a shame.

I have a shih tzu and she is always there for cuddles and love. She is so obediant and very well behaved with people of all ages and animals, she loves to walk but doesn't mind if she misses out either. She is my perfect companion. :happy0151:

I have to agree about the Berners too! The family of a highschool friend bred them and omg they are absolutely gorgeous animals. So friendly and loveable.

I proudly shared my home with a crazy Bouvier for 12 years, until he passed last summer. :( He was a shelter dog, so if I were to ever recommend a dog to someone, I would definitely say start checking out your local animal shelter. You might not find "your" dog your first visit, but there is nothing better than giving that dog a second chance at a better life.
