This is late, but I like Pomeranians for a small dog.

Miniature Schnauzer, but only if you don't mind 'em being smarter than you.

Our dog is a Chihuahua-Dachshund mix, and he is sweet and likes to be held and cuddled, and likes to play and explore too. He's a little clingy is the only thing, but not as shy and overprotective as a full Chihuahua.

I have 2 Labs, adn I've had Golden retrievers. If you get either-make sure you're ready & willing for A LOT of play & excersice time:) Also, as you must suffer anxiety since you're here-make sure to spend time with one before choosing. You want a dog that is very calm, even tempered. If you get one that is very sensitive, your anxiety may scare him or her. One of my dogs is very calm, while the other is very sensitive to my feelings. When my anxiety is up-she's very nervous. All the more reason I have to try to win my war against anxiety-for HER sake :happy0151:

Here's a picture of my little guy from some time back.  Actually he's pretty big for a "Miniature" Schnauzer..everyone comments on how stocky or muscular he is. Lots of exercise and good food! He's 3 1/2 right now.

He is adorable!

I have 2 cats. A male name Sam and a female name Princess. I love them to pieces. They are so important to me. Cats are very layback, cool animals. They help me with my anxiety.

I also love dogs. I just love animals in general but right now a dog would be too much to handle for me.

But dogs that are known to be very sweet and gentle and golden retriever, labrador, bernese mountain dog. They are big dogs but they are sweet and gentle. Here in Montreal there is the Mira foundation. They train dogs for the blinds and also physically disabled and even for autism now. Those are the breeds they have. My fav is the bernese mountain but they are huge and require alot of brushing as they have long fur coat. But they are gorgeous and soooooooooooo sweet  ;D

I adore Labs myself.
If you want to be loved unconditionally labradors seem to be a good choice :)
You'll have to spend some time playing though. And also should have a decent amount of room to play and walk.

I hope you find the perfect dog for yourself!

I adopted a spaniel mix from the shelter and he is so sweet and cuddly.   Browse petfinder.  The fosters and/or shelters usually give personality descriptions of the individual dogs.  We have always had shelter dogs growing up and as an adult.  Some purebred and some mutts.  All have been so sweet.  Yes, some required a little extra training, but I swear there is nothing sweeter than a second chance.

Here, this link might help provide with some basic breed info

The Great Dane is the most gentle, loyal, friendly dog I have ever owned.  I've had one for a year now and I want another one!  If you have the room and can handle a giant breed, I can guarantee you'll have yourself the best companion.

This is so true. They are so sweet. Wonderful with kids.  We saved a few of those from the shelter when I was a kid.  Some of my best dog memories.

Golden Retrievers.  Best all around dog you can get.  Lovable.  Easy going.  Loves affection from its owner.  Happy.  Trainable.  Smart.  Obedient.  And the list goes on.  Get one.

Love Boxer dogs. I walk one daily. Not mine. A neighbours owns him. But I have looked after him since he was a few weeks old. So he fetches his lead once he sees me coming across the road. Smart animal. Lot of other Boxers in this area too. Around 10 or so. If together they can play rough. It's a male thing. They all want to be the boss. Cool dogs.

I prefer Collies and Border Collies, but I am sure the other breeds are just fine. (Wish I could find a Border Collie puppy)

Right now, I have a sweet Collie/Chow mix, and a feisty Beagle/Aussie mix and I love them a lot.

One thing to keep in mind is the cost of food when deciding between small or large dogs.  It's not that huge of an issue, until you start using the better foods out there. Or feeding raw.

Those wolf/dog hybrids are cool Jorden_M. I remember picking up something at some home and the obvious wolf/dog hybrid was howling at me like I was the moon.  The owner was looking at me like "are you Grizzly Adams or something?"  I think I was calling for Ben on my way back to my truck.

My favorite is my German Shepherd Dog.  She is the biggest baby in the world!  It's so funny to watch a 110lb dog run from a tiny little cat........ Apparently she suffers from "cat anxiety".   :P

oh goodness...my dogs have their own anxiety triggers too! Never thought o fit before but, my yellow lab has a phobia of those outside torches for bugs repellents, and fire works. My chocolate lab fears gates. Poor babies-I wonder if they feel alone....

I have a golden lab and sharipe mix, he is my service dog but he teached him self a lot of tricks and helping me. I used baby carrots as rewards. I have 4 dogs and 12 cats. One of the other dogs had abandonment issues every time we left the house he tore it up, I went thru 3 couches, 5 recliners, he chew a live cord. I had to start taking him with me and that calmed him down. Every one of my animals is my babies and the know when I am upset and having anxiety and help me to calm down.

I had a black lab and he was the best!  All he wanted to do was make us happy.  He was good with old people, little kids, adults-he just knew what that person needed and he knew if he could be gentle or rough...amazing personality.  One thing I did not know about dogs is that the bigger they are the shorter their lives.  That was a shock when we lost our dog last November at the age of 12.
Oh he was so beautiful when he ran....You will enjoy whatever you choose.  Marcia
