Sleep and Heredity?
« on: January 22, 2007, 04:05:53 PM »
Quick Question:
I have sleep problems, I fall asleep okay, then other nights I cant fall asleep until at least Midnight. Then I wake up a couple times a night and fall right back to sleep..but.. when I wake up and go through the day I feel more tired than I did before going to sleep. Which really isn't normal. I know some of it is from my anxiety though.
My mom has sleeping problems too, but she is on meds now and it helps her a lot. Sometimes she doesn't even need them.
So..can sleeping problems be hereditary?
Just wondering.

Hi CW

I dont think the sleep problem is hereditary but anxiety is and as you know anxiety causes sleep problems - did your mom have anxiety too?

There are so many reasons for sleep problems - some mental, some physical.

I can't see sleeping problems be hereditary, but I agree that anxiety and issues such as depression can be passed down the line.

Take care.

Yeah, my mom is on depression meds right now. She is a worrier, but not as bad as me, she is just sad quite a bit.
I have been reading up on sleep apnea in different books and I was thinking that I might have that because my dad has it. Where you hold your breath in your sleep.
I just feel tired seriously ALL the time. Even if I do get a full night with like 8-9 hours of recommended sleep.

I have the same problem.  Some days, no matter how much sleep I get, I feel tired.  There are sleep clinics arounds that would gladly take a look at your history.

Take care.
