*** New Version of Chat Software Finally Released! ***

Greetings!

I am pleased to announce that the long-awaited new chat software has finally been released. This was a very long time in coming and I'm sure some of us never thought it was going to be released. There are a LOT of bug fixes in this new version and I hope to install it very soon but of course, there is no guarantee that it will perform any better or any worse than what is already installed. Still, it looks promising and a lot of glitches have been fixed so lets all keep our fingers crossed .

Well, here goes...

The new chat software would not integrate with the forum at all. This appears to be a bug. After numerous attempts and trying every possible trick in the book to get it to work, still no luck. Very disappointing.

Next, I went back and downloaded 4-5 different back-dated versions and went through the same process with all of them. Each one had some sort of issue that prevented it from working as it should.

Finally, the last version (the one that was installed before this morning's attempt) was reinstalled. However, this install was done differently and this time a different FTP client with different settings and a different configuration was used to upload it. Sometimes FTP clients can strip extensions or compress files so they become jibberish and do not function properly. I'm hoping we won't have any issues this time (or at least fewer issues than we encountered before).

Also, a few other changes have been made to the forum registration process to make it easier for new members.

I wrote to the lead developer about the inability to integrate the new version of the chat software with our forum and I just heard back from him. He has provided a link to the files needed for integration.

So I guess as long as the current chat rooms are working properly, maybe we just just wait but if issues develop, at least we now have a way to install the new one .
