Kidney stones?
« on: May 28, 2010, 05:49:11 PM »
I have had a dull aching in my lower back for a few days, sometimes it is a stabbing pain through my pelvis. Today, my lower back ached when I went pee. :/ Do you think I have kidney stones? My Grandmother used to get them all the time, and the pain has only been getting more persistant. Also, if you do have them, is it possible for them to go away on their own without having a kidney stone attack?

I just wonder if I have these because last time I was at the Dr's (a few months ago) and had a urine test he said everything was normal. Can they form that fast? Wouldn't something have shown up in the urine if I had kidney stones?

Thanks guys for your help in aadvance.

Unless the stone created an infection, I don't think anything would show up. And yes - kidney stones can (and I believe usually do) pass on their own. Especially if you safely increase the amount of water you drink.

I thought I had one last year, so I drank about 2-3 tall glasses of water in a row. Suddenly I felt a little *pop* where the pain had been and it traveled down to my bladder & disappeared when I peed. No more pain!

If you're having kidney worries, drinking slightly more (not too much more) of the recommended amount of water can help.

That of course depends on how big they are.

I had one who had to be surgical removed.

Usually Kidney Stones are not happen gradually.   One moment you don't have pain, the other moment you are in real pain.

I had three kidney stones in my life. One of them was undiagnosed while pregnant. I didn't know what it was. I went in the ER because I felt pain on the left side. they gave me the cup and their was tons of blood in my urine.  And I felt better LOL

The second one at first they diagnosed it as an UTI. Then the antibiotics wasn't working and I had big pains on the left side . When I got in they did an ultra sound and told me it is too big to pass and told me they have to remove it surgically.

The third one was on Christmas day three years ago. I was feeling great and all over sudden the sharp pain again. I knew exactly what it was and went to the ER. They didn't believe me. LOL, I was so much in pain that I throw up all over the place.. Finally the Ultrasound techinichan came and they told me it was a kidney stone. I told them they should have just believed me. They gave me morphin and send me on my way home. The next day I went to the bathroom and the pain was gone and the stone was their.

Kidney stone are very painful. I think you would know if you had one. It is not slight pain on and off. It is huge pain.

I think you are alright. But drinking lots of water will help. Of course in some areas people tend to get kidney stones more often because the water is harder then others. That is what they told me in Arizona after the third kidney stone.

After the second kidney stone they told me my stone was calcium and since I didn't drink any milk the body wants to hold on to a lot of calcium and that could have caused it. I don't really know.

I don't drink enough as it is.

Well depends on how big they are. I had some small ones and the doc said you don't always have that typical "horrible pain" that you hear about. I had a lot of visible blood in my urine so that's why I went in. Also my back had like a dull ache too!
